i have a ten yr old boy who would love a traditional camp. He is anaphylactic to peanuts/nuts. Does anyone know of a peanut/nut free camp?

Camp TAG is a 5-day, half-day camp for children ages 3-12 that will launch in summer 2011. It will provide a safe place for children with food allergies and their siblings to have fun with no worries about having an allergic reaction, as well as give them an opportunity to meet other children who share the same conditions and know they are not alone! You can check it out on the FAAN website: http://www.foodallergy.org/section/camp-tag2. Look under Registration on the top right for details about the cost & location.

Can you give an idea about geography you will consider? There are a number of peanut/tree nut free camps and/or allergy-aware camps. We do not maintain a list and do not endorse any camps, but having said that, here is an example of one that spells out their food allergy policies and procedures right on their website: http://www.campemerson.com/great-summer-camp-food.html

We're in Huntersville. I have not seen any camps for school aged kids that are peanut free. We let our 7 yr old with PA attend the half-day town sponsored sports camps since lunch is not involved. There is the chance kids will bring snacks with the allergen, but some don't stop to have snack. You should check out Camp Invention through CMS. It is full-day with lunch, but the director of the one at our son's school was willing to put procedures in place to have his room and materials not come in contact with peanuts. In the end, the timing of the camp did not work for us.
Hi, I'm looking for a food allergy friendly day camp near the Philadelphia area for the summer. Anyone have any suggestions?

Sesame Rockwood in Blue Bell is where Seth went. We also know somebody that works in the kitchen at Camp America too, and she is very sensitive to food allergies.

Suzanne's Ricemellow Creme and Marshmellows use rice instead of corn as a sweetener. Also, Lisa Lundy's book, he Super Allergy Girl Cookbook, has a recipe that uses gelatin, vanilla and confectioner's sugar (potato or corn based).
