Gymboree would be nice, especially in the winter. The children's museum in Naperville. Brookfield Zoo.

Brookfield Zoo awesome for under 8 crowd. Morton Arboretym in Lisle is expensive but so pretty if you like to walk. Naperville has a children's museum that is good for 1 st grade and under.

theres one in Rockford thats is awesome. I think its called Burpee Childrens Museum or Burpee Museum of Natural History. with a Discovery Center for kids.

Dupage Children's Museum in Naperville is awesome. If you buy a pass for the year you can visit whenever you want for free and many of the other children's museums will be free or reduced too. My daughter and I share a pass so I can take my grandson or she can take him.

I brought my son to the DuPage children's museum when he was that age (he's 3 now) and they definitely have age appropriate things for them to do and he'll be entertained. Fun Republic is also a very good option that's closer although I've never been there but my little guy has.
