I would like to ease any concerns regarding granite vs. silestone. When you use a reputable granite contractor, the countertops are sealed and require little or no maintenance. Good reputable contractors, such as Sam Houston, use a sealer that lasts fo r years. Sam has never had to re-seal a counter top. When you use granite, you can cut directly on the granite and place hot items on it. Granite is a rock; it does not scratch or burn and if it is sealed properly it can be one of the easiest counter tops to clean and maintain. I hope I was helpful in dispelling any myths. We used a guy out of Roseville. His company is called House of Granite. His name is Arthur (916) 996-8299. He ended up being the least expensive, did a great job, and doesn't mind driving out here. Good luck!
