Has anyone had a vet recommend surgery on an older Dane (10-1/2) when they get weak in the rear? Has anyone done it?
Renee B. replied:
A vet should try other therapies first before suggesting surgery. It's always a good idea to get a second/third opinion from an Ortho Specialist & Holistic Vet. Surgery should only be done by a specialist, not a general vet. People need to be careful with some vets that are only interested $$$$.
Renee B. replied:
Be careful with straight glucocsamine, it can be hard on their stomachs. Also use coated aspirin like Ascriptin buffered aspirin. This is a good supplement for seniors, it has everything. http://naturesfarmacy.com/.../pro.../dogzymes-complete-1-lb/
Renee B. replied:
It should be ok to use the supplement along with Adequan. You may want to consult with a Holistic Vet. Here is article by Dr. Jean Dodds with lots of suggestions. http://drjeandoddspethealthresource.tumblr.com/.../detoxi...

I know it is risky in a GD of that age, but that doesn't make it impossible. There was an episode on SuperVet a while ago (Noel Fitzpatrick in the UK) with a GD who underwent surgery for a spinal problem and she was an older Dane. Just good to know all your options:)
I wonder if anyone here might be able to suggest something to help Penny? She has 3 legs that were broken and have 'healed' incorrectly. She is a rescue dog living in...
Can anyone recommend a decent vet in Godalming? I so far know of pet doctors and the little vet by the station. Any recommendations for either or others??
Amanda G. replied:
Definately Milford vets.

Station vets in Godalming are really wonderful.
Angela E. replied:

Oak Barn Vets Shalford. Personal service. Amazing and caring.

Station vets in Godalming are lovely, but if you need emergency out of hour's treatment you would need to go to Stockton Road Guildford. We have moved house and joined Northdown in Milford and also highly recommend (emergency out of hours on site which is always a good thing)

We've always found Pet Doctors to be good. I know it is a chain but the staff seem really caring and helpful.

You won't find more caring, compassionate people than Godalming Vets by the station. Have been amazing for us over the past 7 years, both in emergencies and routine situations. They may not be flashy, but Andrew and his team know their stuff and get to know you too
Does anyone know of a vet that will be open tomorrow, please?
David L. replied:
Pet Doctors (the Guildford branch) might be. They normally keep longer hours than the other branches. They are quite often open till late in the evening, so it might be worth calling them now.
My puppy can’t eat this James Wellbelloved food (unfortunately as was recommended by the vet). It doesn’t agree with him.... I have a massive bag (minus a few...
