As A retired professional groomer, I understand WHY all the shops are booked up. Dog owners need to realize, when they buy a dog that will need grooming; that means "grooming on a REGULAR basis".....meaning once a month or once every 6 weeks...for most breeds. Even when a certain breed doesn't need a haircut that often, they STILL need to go, for a bath, brush out, nails, ears, glands, flea & tick treatment, etc. Humans started breeding certain kinds of dogs long ago; that now need regular grooming, not only to LOOK right; but to be happy and HEALTHY. Bottom line, what it means is; dog owners MUST look at their grooming appointments just like they do their own hair salon appointments...... Just as you book your own appt, ahead of time; you must do the same for your pets. Then, IN TIME, you can ask for and get, a special appt, on an emergency basis. But anyone who owns a dog that needs a haircut....already KNOWS ahead of time,,,...that dog WILL need a grooming appt. No grooming shop worth its' salt; will bump a regular customer, to take in a once-a year groom dog. If you are a regular customer of a grooming shop; you will get/have a "standing appointment" ; For the non-dog owners; that means, if you can work your way up the chain, to have an appt, say, on the 10 th of the month; a standing appt, means you have already RESERVED your dogs' spot for the 10 th of EVERY month thereafter. Having had 3 grooming shops in my career; I try to educate dog owners when I can. GOOD Shops will always be booked ahead of time; especially around the first of the month, and always around the holidays. My regular customers usually booked their Thanksgiving and Christmas appts about 4 months ahead of time. And we would be running almost 24/7 right up until the Eve before. Mothers' Day is probably booked; and most good shops will be booking appts. for the week of July 4 th about now. Hope this helps some people out there.
Iso a super cheap dog groomer.
