American Expat - Never Filed Taxes & Need Firm Recommendations Hi all,
So I realize that I'm not in the best position but want to get myself situated as needed before...

I’ve been using taxes for expats the past few years and have been quite satisfied. They’re pretty friendly on the wallet compared to most. I’ve seen (but haven’t used) they have a streamlined service for people in your situation to catch up on missed returns. Overall, to get on the right side with this stuff will be a bunch of money upfront, no matter which service you use, but based on some of the horror stories you read online, it could get much worse. Good for you for trying to square everything up!

Here are a few expat tax specialists you can check in to. Bright & Greenback are larger shops that maybe have mixed reviews. My Expat Taxes is generally liked by people I see commenting on them. Revolve Tax is active on the /r/USExpatTaxes sub and has always seemed fair & knowledgeable. The others I can not comment on.

I had H&R Block get me up to date about 15 years ago. Since then, I have been doing the taxes myself with QuickTax USA. That other company that is recommended here looks great though if you are not comfortable DIYing in the future. $1200 to get up to date is a pretty good deal as I think I paid that with H&R.

/u/kali_kiwi: [American Expat Tax Services](https://www.amexpattax.com/) was recommended to me by an Enrolled Agent whom I got to know in California and their [pricing](https://www.amexpattax.com/pricing-schedules/) looks reasonable.
Can anyone recommend a good and reliable accountant that does USA taxes here in Hong Kong that will not charge an arm and a leg? Thanks

http://www.greenbacktaxservices.com/ I have used them for 6 years and they are excellent. They charge around $350 USD. If you send me a PM I'll send you a referral.
Help filing U.S. taxes internationally I am new to reddit so if this has been addressed before I would be forever grateful for a link to it! :)

Your monthly wage is only $500? What was your total income in 2012? If it was under $9,750, you shouldn't be required to file an income tax return. Have you expatriated or are you just currently living abroad? How much have you looked into this and who quoted you $500 in fees? International and expat work can be complicated, but I'm guessing your income situation doesn't call for too many complications. I don't know your full situation, so I can't comment on whether that's a fair price.

potato has good advice here. I'd recommend greenbacktaxservices.com but I believe their base price is $350 and includes a lot of stuff you don't need. (They specialize in expat and int'l tax stuffs) Maybe ask for a consult from them and they can help you out one way or the other.
