So, just to reiterate, i did get an appointment. I refrained from saying who it was with because i appreciate ALL the suggestions and i suspect that I could not have gone wrong with any of them. I did, however end up at Dr. Mertz's office. It was comp letely as the people here said. Comfortable, friendly, professional and compassionate. The hygienist is indeed very good, as well. Thanks again for all the recommendations, folks.

You might try Dr. Justin Pfaffinger in Nevada City. He is very sweet and compassionate and has done a lot of work with low in-come families, including his work at miners family health clinic. I can't say with any certainty that he'd be willing to work for just trade, but may give a significant discount. I would recommend him either way, as he is the only dentist I really trust.
