Dava Giles Betenbaugh yes... u can apply for some funding before cut off time and then wait and see if u get approved for them... They allow so much. I think Avery's EI told me this summer they allocated about $300 per person this year..

It's a longer drive from you, but Carvers Gap at Roan Mountain to 19E is incredible. Beautiful balds. Great 1.5 day hike, camp in (if you weren't set on car camping).
