I need to go to hospital to get my knees checked out, does anyone know where I should go/can recommend an English speaking doctor?
Julian W. replied:
Dr Sim of Dongah Hospital at Baegeun Intersection speaks good English and is the head of the largest triathlon club in Gwangju. He checked my knee a couple of years ago and was pretty good, but ended up prescribing me a course of anti-inflammatories, and another pill to deal with the side effects of the other three. I decided to just use a Chinese localised anti-inflammatory lotion and focus on foods with anti-inflammatory properties, and not suddenly run 10 kms without building up to it first. If you're having more serious ongoing issues though, he's probably great for that.

In fairness, I've yet to encounter a clinic/office where they can't scrounge up someone who can speak decent English. That being said, if you ever need something more than a simple checkup, Nurse Kim at Chonnam University Hwasun Hospital is excellent. They have a huge network with every sort of specialist and procedure you can think of, and Nurse Kim and the others at the international clinic take great care of foreigners. The doctors spoke English as well, but it was great to have her to arrange everything. My needs were sorta complicated but she understood completely and provided amazing care every step of the way. It's a bit outside of Gwangju but it is worth it, imo. http://www.cnuhh.com/eng/

Everyone! Wants stories of various opinions. When a stranger came to Korea as sick would not want to think bothers. 're Difficult to talk to a doctor ..... Fully understandable. For education in Korea to the extreme is renowned worldwide. In particular, the level of medical education, which requires a huge long-term education. All doctors speak basic English and I think I know the line. I recommend one particular disease such as members of the medical institution in Gwangju the highest level of trust that is required. In particular, the interpretation is possible such as University Hospital physicians, nurses, medical technicians, general office work, and must adopt appropriate personnel mandatory. University Hospital but the numerous procedures, various tests, and moving is a huge time consuming and expensive medical doctor is just a few minutes time. But mid-level clinic, including the above-mentioned drawbacks can be resolved at once. I know I'm the best for you I want to do. Take care of yourself.

Gwangju Christian Hospital is great for emergencies and check-ups. i will not recommend it for anything else. The best orthopedic check-ups are in CT Hospital near Gwangju University, and Dong-A Hospital in Baegun-dong. Dong-A Hospital has some decent English-speaking doctors. CT hospital gets the job done really well, but there aren't any translators.
Anyone know if hospitals in the Gwangsangu area are open tonight? I'm in need of a doctor. Merry Christmas to me :/

I would recommend Dong-A Hospital. I met three doctors there who can speak English. One in the ER (don't ask, long story) around 4 AM. Anyway, i am not sure who they are, but i only go there if and only if i have an emergency situation as it is right across the street of my house. The catch: It's in Bae-goon Dong, about an hour and 20 minutes from Cheomdan.
Tamara L. replied:
There's a great doctor within walking distance from the Cheon Dae Dental Hospital (CNUDH) so you could see the dentist and the doctor in one afternoon if you want! Here's the map between both:http://goo.gl/maps/cNw0S (ignore the bus route suggested on this link and just walk - it'll take all of 10 minutes) Dr. Kang's office is on the 5th floor and I think it's called GeoMed Clinic (maybe Body & Soul Clinic - they changed their sign recently). He and his assistant speak fluent English - no appointment required. He's a pain management doc primarily, but can see you for anything and he's a great starting point if you need a referral to a specialist anywhere else. His office provides full physicals for women, but the kind of physicals we're accustomed to in the US are not covered by national insurance. The most expensive it would be is 200,000W and you can opt out of certain tests and make it cheaper if you want. As for Dr. Lee (the dentist at CNUDH), you can call him at 062.530.5700 if you absolutely have to - but as mentioned by someone else, no appointment is necessary at his office. He's super friendly, though, and will answer any questions you have.

i dont think with Dr. Lees you do i know several ppl that just walked in
Olivia B. replied:
You can walk in at Dr. Lees but go earlier rather than later. Although they are open late, the English-speaking doctor leaves somewhere around 5 or 6 pm from what I've seen.
Alushia F. replied:
so Dr. Lees is in pungamdong kind of by the World Cup Stadium if you are taking a bus the 78 and 75 both go by it. it is a very tall building that says Dr. Lees and it will be on your left-hand side. Michelle or Olivia do you know what to say in a cab to get there?
Olivia B. replied:
It is in a corner building upstairs. The first floor is a samsung store. Facing the samsung store it is to the left up some stairs. I've never taken a cab but the business card says 광주광역시 서구 풍암동 1150번지 삼성디지털프라자 for the address and the phone number is 062.653.7123
