Hi, asking for a couple visiting in March/April.
What's the best hotel/guesthouse (or hostel with a private room) to stay in OQ for relatively cheap/affordable?
Sam M. replied:
If they use this code they get £15 off via booking.com: https://www.booking.com/s/15_8/sam39631 Another option is using airbnb. I stayed in a lovely apartment for relatively cheap on Hang Bong.

[Tigit](http://www.tigitmotorbikes.com/) Motorbikes, and I'm sure many others, will allow you to pay a ~$500 deposit instead of leaving a passport. Alternatively, you can take photocopies of your passport for the hotels and leave the passport with the motorbike company.
Drez91 replied:
I fully support Tigit motorcycle. Bought a bike from them in Saigon, rode it to Hanoi and they bought it back from me for 80% what I paid. Highly recommend them. I'm not sure if they have a hanoi office though.. I was living in Hanoi not too long ago and didn't see anything. The bike company I did rent from was called RentAbike in tay ho district. I was renting monthly with them and if you didn't want to leave your passport you had to pay monthly with a 1 month deposit on the bike . They were very pleasant to deal with and would recommend them. Plus the main girl who works there is very cute :)
oh_deer5 replied:
Thanks for the replies. I had heard about Tigit in some of my research already, glad to hear they can work with a deposit. Their web site shows an address in Hanoi as well: https://www.tigitmotorbikes.com/hanoi-motorbike-shop/

Everywhere I've ever rented a bike has let me leave my us driver's license instead of my passport.
entropyofdays replied:
If you have a passport card (say, if you're an American) I've been able to leave that. I also left only a copy of my passport with Style Motorbikes in the old quarter (who are a great outfit, but the way).
worldtrooper replied:
Its also ok to leave a copy of your passport and visa at most hotels. Never had a problem with that
tenaciouszep replied:
I didn't have to leave my passport with Minh's Motorcycle's in Cau Giay, I just took a passport of it and a 1,000,000 d deposit. Worth a punt for sure!
cattalinga replied:
Just bring a photocopy of passport + visa page and your hotel should be ok with that.

Look at Joseph's hotel in Hanoi. Fantastic small hotel in the old town area. Cannot be beaten for the money.
queefcannon16 replied:
Try AirBnB. I used it a lot in SE Asia when I was in the same position. It's good to use Booking and Agoda to find a hotel you like. Rather than booking through the apps though, I would go in person, or email the hotel directly. Always cheaper. We met a Canadian couple in Laos in the room next to us, they paid $28 USD online, we just went to reception and got the same room for $18.

Yen Tu mountain, Halong Park (some pubs around it), Quang Nhin museum is awesome, check if Bai Tho mountain is open for climbing, cycling in Tuan Chau (rent a bile at Paradise hotel), La Paz resort has a nice beach with swings and hummocks and a beach bar called Sandy Bay, best pizza in town. Cat Ba for sure. Roof top bar at Royal Lotus hotel for drinks and view.

Bunwin Boutique Hotel - 20 dollars a night - absolutely lovely boutique hotel with private pool, bar and extremely helpful staff. 10 mins from airport and 5 mins from pub street.
Phạm T. replied:
Try Kaorm Hotel and book through Traveloka ($21 something), breakfast incuded, and picking up at airport. Just a bit more effort to communicate
Luke M. replied:
Stayed at Cheng Lay Guesthouse for 4 nights last week, $13 a night for a double room including free airport pick up and drop off. No breakfast included but everything was ~$2 on their menu. Really close to the centre but far enough away to be quiet at night. ATMs are everywhere but I stuck to using Canadia Bank ones as they were recommended and card fraud is quite big here. I got a Cellcard sim for $5 at the airport which gave me 3 gb and calls/texts.
