Help/advice needed - I don't know many sax players, as I have been working on me tod (not part of a section) for many years, so don't get a chance to have these geeky...
If Dukoff is no good (you need d rather than m) then try Berg Larssen. Try using softer reeds. Try also standing in front of a mirror, which reflects sound faithfully, and change the way you blow til you get the sound you want. Experiment with lip/cheek/ etc. I'm no pro, but I wanted a soft sound when I was young, did this, and now I play a D Dukoff just to sound normal! In fact I pretty much have the same tone whatever mouthpiece I play, and I think it's cos I play slightly "subtone" all the time. So you need to make sure you're not doing this! C

thanks Ian Price this is exactly what I'm after - I have the sound I want, just want to keep it consistent with something other than blue tac ;-)

There's a guy called Paul Burger in Bournemouth who'll fashion a mouthpiece to your spec - pdbwoodwind.co.uk
