A good friend of mine inherited this '72 911 from his Dad who just passed away. At some point his Dad swapped a fuel injected motor out of a wrecked '83 911 into it and...

I would bring it to Kurt at Marque Motors on SW Macadam. It is where I go. I have also heard good things about A&P Specialities.

To answer your core question - Rothsport. Give them a budget and see if they can meet it. If not them Marque Motors in Lake Oswego isa fine shop too. As for the engine and FI, the 3.0 L (SC) engine with a properly set up CIS is a rock solid engine. I w ould LOVE to have one to swap into my '74. Changing out to carbs will be upwards of 5 k, as to properly maximize their benefit, the cams have to be changed too. Once you're that far in the slope gets slippery in hurry.

I'm not a historic expert, but I think the auxiliary door is in fact oil fill, and was '73 only (?). The folks on the Pelican Forum will bend your ear for hours, but for a straight answer ask Steve Weiner@Rennsport. He's also a fine source of parts a nd info. As for setting up the CIS, the best reference I've seen is http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-Fuel-Injection.../dp/0837603005 I ordered a copy through Powells and had it delivered to the branch walking distance from my house. Truly well written book. As for converting to other systems - the only one that really works reliably is Motronic, which is going to be a big project. You'll have to install triggers (modify bell housing) change wiring harnesses for the brain box... yada yada....

Absolutely no diss to CIS. I've had a few cars with it, if your injectors are clean, your fuel pump puts out the correct pressure, etc etc, engine's running well, then the stock 'mapping' will work perfect, the car will run great indefinitely. I'm just saying, there are options for modern fueling and ignition now. This gives you the option for more aggressive ignition timing, cleaner motor and more torque, tighter fueling, more power, better mileage, longer lasting motor that isn't cold blooded and is cake to diagnose when issues arise..in case that interests you, considering its anti-concours already smile emoticon http://preracing.com/installation-services/dyno-tuning/ ^-they list a flat rate for standalone, I'm sure they mean for more standard 80 s-2000 s car with modern sensors already, so there would be updating (of course) of sensors and injectors http://www.tunedbypsi.com/services.php?2 I know these guys do porsches Both of these shops are a couple of the 'big ones' in tuning around here just fyi Okay getting really sacrilegious here.. I would prefer chevy coil packs, mustang injectors, and a throttle position sensor from a subaru, so when something goes wrong, I hook in with a laptop, it *tells me* whats wrong, I go to autozone, pay $50 for the part, laugh, replace the part and move on. In 2015 that is something you can actually do, and its pretty cool. Its okay if I'm all alone in reveling in that. The factory chose a variety of parts suppliers based on standards and pricing, once a car's in the customer's hands you're locked into what they chose, getting out of that allows an opportunity for greater performance, reliability, standardization and parts availability, all good things. Easy daily driver, cheap to fix That said, I have a 1965 mustang with a carburateur, and on the car is a fuel pump gauge, a wide band oxygen sensor and a vacuum gauge, I pretty much know what's going on from a glance wink emoticon I one hundred percent appreciate and understand older tech, but utilize and benefit from newer tech as well
Harry D. replied:
Matthew Samuel Saks no dis to you but CIS is nothing like any electronic injection system. Converting a CIS car to EFI requires not just sensors but also means to install a mass flow sensor and a 100% install of all needed engine sensors. If you are keeping a stock motor, it is much more cost effective to repair the CIS.
Mechanic recommendations? I just moved here. Can anyone recommend a trustworthy, competent mechanic that won't overcharge?
I see another post for this but it's 2 years...

ABA Auto Repair near the Hillsboro airport is with a doubt the most honest shop in town. Brian has been our mechanic for several years now, he doesn’t overcharge, and they always take the time to explain what they’re doing. They can be a little booked up at times, but they are worth the wait.

Matrix in Beaverton was freaking amazing. They do German cars too. They let us leave our car for three nights, no extra charges, showed us where they sourced parts to show that they weren’t overpriced, and were clear and up front the whole way. Also as a woman I’ve had mechanics try to take advantage of my assumed “don’t know how” several times and I didn’t feel this at all at Matrix.
J-In-Puddles replied:
They're not in Hillsboro, but I'd recommend Affordable Automotive in Cornelius. The guy's got a small space, but it gets very busy and it's been running for a while (at least 10 years). Since it gets very busy expect repairs to take a couple of days, but he doesn't swindle you out of more money and repairs are very well done.

I love my mechanic! Call the manager, Jason, at Ed's Mufflers 503-641-3905. I've been going to them for at least 3 years.

Bob has owned Oak Street Auto Care in Hillsboro forever. My dad used him and now we do too. When Hallies car quit on us we took it in to him to check it out, he found nothing wrong with it and charged us no money. VERY honest and fair!
