Posted link to page if my audiologist--Max McCarthy. My neuro-otologist is Dr. Franklin at Rosewood ENT. Dr. Franklin will pressure you to use his audiologists, but just say no. I only see the doctor at Rosewood. I don't use their audiologists.
Elderly mom has hearing loss; I would welcome your recommendations for an audiologist. I think it's time for Mom to get some hearing aids. So many scammy companies out...

I am an audiologist. DO NOT go to Costco. Hearing aids there are usually re-branded older technology by main manufacturers. Also, the rebranded brands can only by adjusted there, so she wouldn'tbe able to get them adjusted at a clinic or different audiologist since it is proprietary software. (Same goes for Beltone, Miracle Ear, New Sounds). At Costco, Audiologist, if they have one, will see her for consult and fitting. From then on, she will see a technician. Even then, I often see patients bringing their test results performed there and the people testing usually do not even know what they are doing and just want to sell. I have to repeat testing most of the time. Pricing wise you can get better and newer technology at same price at an audiology office. The place where I work is called Dizziness and Balance Centers of America, we are in Katy. We follow an unbundled hearing aid sale model, meaning that we bring our pricing down for hearing aids, as everything is charged separately as needed. Consult, follow ups, accessories, etc. Hearing aid prices at our office range from $500 to $2000 each. Some insurances have a hearing aid benefit, so check on that too. At the end, treat hearing care as hearing healthcare.. not sure you really want older technology devices from a place where you can get bulk toilet paper. Hearing aids need to be adjusted properly when it's a first time user. Patient will have a few follow ups first year. Just so you understand the pricing, sometimes the hearing aid price may be higher because it includes services or etc. Just like you pay so much for a surgery, it includes physician, anesthiologist, follow up care, etc. I battle trying to make people understand that as an audiologist, I AM trained in inner ear health, assessment, management of hearing loss, dizziness, tinnitus, etc. I am not just a tech pushing buttons for hearing aids. I have a doctorate degree, and that is what is needed to practice audiology in the US. You really wanna go somewhere where they only have a high school degree and a certificate of 1 month training for hearing aids only? tl;dr, do your research, do take her to a proper audiologist (understand the educational and training difference between an audiologist and hearing instrument technician), and do not be turned off by prices because pricing is different everywhere (I know, I did clinical rotations at many places in Houston and we currently do have a very competitive pricing even compared to Sam's or Costco). If you have questions, reach out to me. Even if you don't want to come to me, I can tell you other good places in Houston. If you don't mind the drive, Lamar University has an audiology clinic in Beaumont with amazing prices (they're non profit since students train there). Please do not purchase anything online or over the counter.

Go to Costco. Their hearing aid center is staffed with an audiologist (make an appointment), and their hearing aids are *significantly* (on the order of thouands) less expensive than buying through a typical private practice, but are of the same quality. My elderly relatives swear by Costco's hearing aid department.

Dr. Garfield Johnson at Texas ENT is great. Their office is by Memorial City Mall, out on Gessner and I-10.

I went to the Baylor College of Medicine - [Audiology Services](https://www.bcm.edu/healthcare/care-centers/audiology). They were very helpful when I upgraded my cochlear implant and they do hearing aids too, obviously.

Hey music peeps. I have a buddy that needs to get fitted for in ears. Does anyone use a local audiologist in Houston? Recommendations?
Kim M. replied:
1) try contacting hearing aid stores-there's a Beltone on SH105&336 or 2) An ENT may do molds and almost every one has an audiologist on staff - I use Dr. Rosalia Burke. Great lady, her audiologist is wonderful, they are located next to Conroe Hospital or 3) use your own mold that can be purchased online - if interested let me know and I'll tell you how our church did it for our IEM purchase recently.
