Any recommendations for a good fee-based financial planner (CFP) in town? Or any horror stories? I could use some advice and don't mind paying for an unbiased opinion....

Hey itsataw, I've copied my response from a somewhat similar thread a few months ago:
>I have an adviser that, as a CPA, I'd recommend all week long and twice on Sunday. We send the vast majority of our clients that are in need of such an adviser (a small percentage aren't a good fit), and he's very capable, very reachable, and very personable. After not having a decent adviser to recommend people to for years and years, we've had not a single complaint of out the clients that use him and it's been wonderful for us.
>My tax firm is located right down the hall from him and we help out on each others' clients regularly when we get questions about each others' work we aren't qualified to answer, so anything he doesn't know we are more than happy to pick up the phone for.
>If you're interested, his name is Nick Rostykus, phone is 713.481.2264, email is nrostykus@rockgatefinancial.com. You can tell him Charlie sent you or not - you'll get awesome service either way, I promise. If you have any other questions for me, charlie@scrogginscpas.com or 713.703.0100 any time.
>Edit: For clarity's sake, Nick is fully licensed, fee-only, and bound by fiduciary duty, of course.

IMO the fees you pay will just eat into your earnings. Are you working with a crazy amount of capital or what?
Can anyone recommend a financial planner in the Katy or Houston area?

Funny Joshua! By total coincidence I got a call from Aycofn this afternoon. They offer survivor financial planning as a company paid benefit for BP! I have an appointment for November 20.
