You can take Tae Kwon Do at Good Shepherd Catholic Church for free. All you have to pay for is your uniform (once when you start and once when you get your black belt), belts (super cheap, something like $5), and rank test (can't remember if it was $40 or $60 but there's only one every three months). Took six years of class there and it was awesome. It costs like $200 per year and while it's at a church it's not religion based at all. You get lots of one on one instruction and when you're there you're working and improving. It was a very tight knit group while I was there and I still keep in touch with my instructors and classmates. You should try it out!

FYI, if you're a student at UAH, there's free Taekwondo classes at the gym.

Wing Chun practitioner here. I've been taking classes for four and a half years at the White Rose Wing Chun Boxing Academy and I love it. If you're interested, check out the web site: www.AlabamaWingChun.com

For Karate (and a bit more), I would recommend [Alexander's Martial Arts](http://alexandersmartialarts.net/). I've been a student for over a year - I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

I started going to [Traditional Martial Arts Academy](http://www.tmaa.biz/) since I wanted to keep on the path of a traditional martial art. No karate for young adults though, so I went with ninpo taijutsu since it was closer to what I was taught. The classes are about max 6-10 people.

Come give Triad a try if you're interested in bjj / vale tudo / karate. Where do you live? There are several locations in the area.

I cannot speak highly enough of Maverick down near Weatherly. They offer both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai.

I recommend Sablehawk Martial Arts/ Eagle Claw Alliance on Wall-Triana. They have instructors in several forms of Kung-Fu, Jujitsu, and Karate. I've been with them for over 4 years. You can pay by the class or by the month depending on what you need, and they make it a point that all of their ranks are valid with the governing authorities of the form (temples in china for kung-fu, masters counsels for other forms).

Try Solid Rock Timing. They do a good job and are very competitive on pricing. Also very easy to work with. They timed the race for Whitesburg Church with over 300 runners. They also timeD the Turkey Trot (1000+) and the Randolph Cross Country meet at UAH.
