I have a terrier and usually when I go far away for a week or so I send her to a 'pansiyon' for dogs-- sort of similar to a kennel or a farm for dogs. Most of these places keep the dog in a cage most of the time and only allow them to get out for walks , etc., others still keep the dog in a cage but allow more time for them to roam around and socialiize with other dogs. then there are a few that do not have cages at all and allow the dog to run around freely under supervision within their own yard.
