Wondered if anybody could recommend an affordable equine dentist please. I am in Plymouth. Also looking for a good equine vet to register my horses with? Thanks.
Terri E. replied:
I use Calweton too. I would highly recommend for both vet and dental work. Chris Luckhurst is my vet but I have also had Paul Hallum and Lee and would be happy to have any of them out to my horse again.

I wouldn't use anyone other than Filham Park vets (used to be Gabriel, grills and associates) in Ivybridge (my horses were yelverton way), I trust David Gabriel with my life as I do Tom who works there. As for dentist, I always used Bill Lomas as he was always brilliant with both my boys, even when they were being a bit silly or scared.
Julie M. replied:
Bill Lomas. Lovely nature & way with horses, especially horses that are troubled. Takes the time it needs to take.

Before you decide on dentist, take a moment to read the LAW on who can treat your horses teeth and what they can do. You will be surprised at what it says. Go onto the British equine Veterinary Associations website and they clearly state who can do what. I was very shocked! Xx

Martine L. replied:
I am now with Calweton vets and they are fab - have a good mare and a drama queen and both vets I have had have been brilliant with both. I used to use Gill Spinney and she is fab, good with the horses and does a very thorough job
Sharon S. replied:
I used to have David Gabriel from Ivybridge back in early 1980`s up to 1997! He was and is a fantastic Horse Vet and unfortunately live too far away now to have him now! HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM! You wouldn`t get any better i doubt!!
Sharon S. replied:
Horse Dentist are alright until you need the horse sedated because they need to remove a Wolf Tooth and then you`ll find that they are`nt allowed to sedate, so you have to get the Vet!!!! I had Gill Spinney for a Wolf Tooth removal. She came but then said he needed sedating and couldn`t do it! She did nothing and went away with £25 in her pocket!! I then got my own Vet and he did a fantastic job and charged me the same but this time, included sedation and treatment! Who needs Dentists?!! wink emoticon
Laura B. replied:
Gill Spinney or Keith Evens
Cassie G. replied:
Keith Evans for dentist and filham park vets
Mandy A. replied:
We had Harriet Franklin out yesterday and she is just brilliant ... I cannot recommend her highly enough grin emoticon
Nicola H. replied:
Keith Evans, absolutely brilliant equine dentist, and Filham Park Vets for veterinary registration. both patient and thorough, highly reccomend and wouldnt use anyone else for my horses smile emoticon
Martine L. replied:
re the sedation debate - mine never needed it until rough treatment from one of the vets mentioned on here .... err hum - but then I had Gill Spinney and she didnt have any problem as she is very exp and skillful. since she looked after them, apart fr om the odd time when there was something that clearly would have been difficult and/or painful, we were fine. I now use Calweton and they havent had to sedate either. the experienced person knows how to handle the situation and the horses know it
