Upvoted for viability. Hope you find someone. Does your local humane society have a Facebook page? If so you could post to there as they usually have a lot of followers who foster. Also, some rescue places do fosters for situations like this, If your in KY i know of one.

Ask Seer Farms for help. http://seerfarms.org/ >Seer Farms provides a safe environment for animals of families in crisis at least until the immediate crisis passes. > >Our mission is to serve families in crisis due to foreclosure, extended medical illness, extended military deployment, domestic violence and other acute situations where families are forced to make decisions quickly and sometimes unexpectedly. Another idea is to contact local rescue groups about an extended fostering period. If your friend can afford it, making a donation to the group helping him would be a lovely gesture.

Could look at Rover or DogVacay, maybe someone would do it for a reduced charge. Not sure how active those sites are for PA/NJ though...

Not to be an asshole but maybe your friend should have thought of this before committing whatever crime that earned him the five months in jail. How is he going to afford a boarding house while incarcerated? If he can't afford someone, maybe you can buck up having five dogs for five months? It would probably be cramped, but better than getting rid of the dogs if another temporary solution could not be found.

I know you posted to /r/NewJersey -- but both that state reddit and /r/Pennsylvania have lists in their sidebar of other reddits specific to local communities and colleges. You should also check the link in the side bar here for the full list of animal related reddits -- there are reddits specifically for dogs and rescue that may help. Finally, you might be able to get help from a prisoner support network -- ask at the jail if such exists in your area. Good luck with your noble quest!

There is a long term boarding place in Mays Landing. It's going to be a LOT of money though. You might want to try to find a benevolent stranger and give them money for food, supplies, etc.
