So what is "low-fee" (& maybe we can just call it something else like "apprentice rate" or "program rate" if affiliated) if lowest is 0 and higher is $1200 then please...

when clients ask for a quote i send the this link as a reference when establishing an offering http://nycdoulacollective.com/labor-support/ -- as Birth workers we should always get compensated fairly , even if it's a payment plan or bartering. Otherwise it directly undercuts the entire fee/cost market for all Birthworkers. Just my two cents

So you are giving birth in Northern NJ and want a low-fee doula. Here is the 411. Since the Community Doula Program in Jersey City ended we do not have any official community doula programs in Northern NJ. Here are some options for how to pay for a dou la even if you think you cannot afford one. First of all, what is the expectation for fees? Since doulas fees are not regulated there is a wide-range of fees. Here is an example of tiered pricing from The NYC Doula Collective http://nycdoulacollective.com/labor-support/ Tier 1: 1-10 births $350 Tier 2: 10-20 births $700 Tier 3: 20-50, $1000 Tier 4: 50-100, $1500 Tier 5: Over 100, $2000-$2800 If you are open to having an apprentice doula (a doula who seeking certifying births as part of their training and to apply to their certification application) thru organizations such as CAPPA and DONA then you can probably find one for between $200 - $600. To find these doulas, you can 1) post or message us here on NNJ Doula Net & we will post on our timeline for you, 2) You can look on doulamatch for doulas in your area and in your budget. http://doulamatch.net/list/birth/nj/ . Some not yet certified doulas will be listed on here and you can contact them directly (note: you do not need to be certified to work as a doula in NJ). Another option is to apply for reimbursement from your insurance company. http://www.dona.org/PDF/3PRSampleLetter.pdf You will need to pay your doula in full but may get reimbursed. Sacred Roots has a mentorship program with a few doulas at a time who offer their services for $400-600 http://www.doulanj.com/mentorship-program.html . You can also ask your hospital if they have a doula program as oftentimes the hospital programs will charge at the lower range of doula fees- for instance Valley Ridgewood http://www.valleyhealth.com/ChildBirth.aspx?id=436 offers doulas for $750. To share other ideas with us or information about other ideas you have or information about community doula programs in northern NJ, please comment here. Also, please consider writing the consortium expressing your interest in a comm doula program. http://partnershipmch.org/contact/ . Best of luck finding a doula to support your birth!

Naima and Michele from NYC Doula Partners were fantastic and I owe them my sanity. Naima was my wonderful, pragmatic, grounding doula during spontaneous labor that eventually morphed into an induction-esque thing, and Michele was my lactation consultant who taught me how to help Ellie latch and coached me through oversupply. They're in NYC, but they came to JC for all of our meetings and for my delivery at JCMC. I really can't say enough about them. Love love love. http://nycdoulapartners.com/

no community doula programs anymore in NJ, Therese, but Newark Beth Isreal Medical Center and University Hospital in Newark are interested...they need to commit to the funding and build capacity of doulas...sadly no current free access community doula programs in NJ where doulas are paid like community health workers.
