Graduated Ascension in '58. Played ball in that little gym many times. Who do you recognize?
Susan K. replied:
I didn't hear that, Tom. I didn't have Sr Jean Helene when she was at Ascension but I had her for homeroom and Latin at LF and then two of my children had her for Spanish at McDevitt - by then she was known as Sr Marian Ahern. When she left teaching she worked at the Villa and then became a resident there and I stayed in touch with her until we moved. I can't believe I can't remember the name of my first grade nun at Ascension but I heard that she left the convent. Sr Rose Therese taught first grade in the classroom next to mine (her's was next to the stage). I know she was alive for many years after we left Ascension. I had Sr Marie Henry for second grade but never heard anything about her. I had Miss Grace for third and fourth grade, Sr Joan Immaculate for fifth and Sr Nativity for sixth but I'm blocking on seventh. And Sr Ignatius of Loyola for eigth. I know we were in some classes together, Tom. Do you remember any of these nuns? Do you remember who taught seventh for our year?
Eileen S. replied:
Friends, look at: http://www.ssjphila.org/Archiveslst.htm to see info there on these wonderful sisters.
Tom K. replied:
Sue, I had Sr. Walter Elizabeth in first, Sr. Marie Henry in second, I think Sr.Joan Dolores in third or fourth, or Sr.Joan Immaculata in third or fourth. Those two grades are blank.Sr. Thomas Michael in fifth, Sr. Nativity in sixth, or vice versa. I just remember that Sr. Thomas Michael took care of the pretzels & milk. She had Jackie Mabin & me distributing them. Sr. Marie Regis in seventh, Sr. John Raymond in eigth. I know that I didn't have any lay teachers but I remember Miss Grace. I remember a Sr. Scholastica, not sure of the spelling, but I don't think I had her. I remember Sr. Rose Theresa too. Remember when we had split days? The younger people don't remember how crowded it was before the annex was built. We were never in there. Same as North, the annex was built after I graduated.

The Sister closest to the voting machine looks like Sister Rita Edward.
George C. replied:
I had sister Rose Therese in first grade and remember her towering over us. Met her 40 years later and she was a tiny women. Amazing how your perception changes over the years.
Eileen S. replied:
I graduated from Ascension in 1959. I knew a MaryEllen Crossley from my class. Yes, I had Sr. Rose T. in first grade and I remember her being tall! I guess she is if you're a little first grader. She was a wonderful nun. I had Sister Alma Consilii in second grade, Sr. Thomas Michael (she liked those pretzels ;-)) in third grade and Miss Grace in fourth...
Jean V. replied:
Eileen O'Brien Stagg Mary Ellen Crossley was my sister and of course George is my brother. Have a younger sister, Betty (Betty Ann). I'm Jean (Jeannie) Crossley and graduated in 1956 from Ascension. Had Sr. Rose Amato in 1 st grade along with almost 100 in my class. The nun I'll NEVER forget is Sr. Charles Angelus in 7 th grade. One mean lady!
Marie B. replied:
