There’s a lot of little markets on Newark Ave, if you’re looking for just a couple things- P&K and Oliva. Key Food is not ideal but does have your traditional grocery store stuff. I THINK there’s an Acme(?) by the Target but I’ve never been there and don’t know what the quality is like. 99 Ranch is an Asian supermarket but has a lot of stuff, including cheap and good quality produce. (And samples!!!)

I live next to Shop Rite and I refuse to go in there unless I absolutely have to. My grocery shopping is a combination of Fresh Direct, Amazon Prime Now (Whole Foods delivery) and Sprove. I will recommend Key Foods too. I used to frequent that place when I lived over on Erie. So much better for the soul than the hellhole that is Shop Rite.

The ACME is OK but selection is beat and sort of pricey. Also I think they sell damaged/expired items. The Hoboken Shoprite is nicer but still can get pretty crazy because thats one of only a few over in that area as well. Personally, I'll go out of my way to drive to the Stop & Shop in Bayonne. Super nice, good prices, good selection of produce, and rarely ever crowded.

Key foods and 99 Ranch

Key Foods on 3 rd and Jersey Ave is a good place to get some produce, meat, and then non-perishables. In terms of more fresh produce options, better off going someplace else (I have a car so go to Trader Joe's in Hoboken).

Try to go to shop rite before 11 am on weekends - you will be pleasantly surprised at how few people and well stocked the shelves are. Also small checkout lines at that time.

You can also shop at Whole Foods via prime now.

KeyFoods - 3 rd & Jersey ACME - 18 th & Marin not really walking distance also has mice everywhere last I was there. La Congita - Bay & Grove Olivia, PK, etc all along Newark

I’m not in Jersey City so your mileage might vary - I’m in Harrison, all I have is a crappy Seabra - so I use Instacart for groceries instead. I have a couple stores to choose from, and the Instacart shoppers have been pretty good and they have same day timeslots unlike Fresh Direct/Peapod/etc.

99 ranch is also very close on Grand St. They specialize in Asian groceries but you can find alot of non-asian stuff there as well.

They answer yes. Then I ask them, "What will they be *about*?" It's great fun. http://www.davehitt.com/blog2/can-i-get-a-witness/
Hi! Does anyone use grocery delivery service? If so which one and how are the shipping fees? TIA
Karen G. replied:
Definitely Fresh Direct. The annual membership is about $120. I've been using them since 2002. Convenient and top notch quality. Easy refunds for any food not up to your standards. They are more expensive than regular markets but they have sales too:)

We have been really happy with Farmigo, its a cross between a CSA and Fresh Direct. The produce is direct from local farmers but you choose what you want to recieve every week with no minimum, no subscription and no delivery fees. Pick-ups are Mondays 6-8:30 pm at Gulls Cove (201 Marin Blvd). We have been participating for a few months are are really impressed with the quality (also has local dairy, meat and other grocery items). https://www.farmigo.com/farmigoatgullscove
Has anyone here tried Peapod for grocery delivery? Considering trying it since my son doesn't always last very long in the store and the logistics of unloading...
