I have a Great Dane myself. He’s almost 8 months and our breeder recommended a large breed specialist so we go to Halifax Veterinary Services. His name is Dr. Hopkins and he even has horses in the back lol. He’s awesome. Super knowledgeable with the breed. I wouldn’t take my dog anywhere else. I looked into all the insurances and honestly, Nationwide was the best for us. It’s a little pricey but they have just been so awesome and cover so much preventative care.

The vet. should be Court Street Animal Hospital for yearly things and they will send you to Vet. Assoc. of Cape Cod for the tacking and neutering. Excellent Dr. there that does tacks for Danes. We have a year and a half year old male who see Dr. Ross at Court Street. We had a great experience with the Cape Cod vets also. Good luck with your new baby. Truly a great great breed.

I have had the best experience with Kingston Animal Hospital, I love Dr. Agate DeMarco, my dog had surgery twice there, and she couldn't have been more competent or kinder to us, as the owners. But you said you didn't like it there, if you decide to go there again, ask for her, there are about 6 vets on the staff

We have had several pets over the years and gone to a few different vets, I have been the happiest with Halifax Vet. They are reasonably priced and have a great bedside manner. They have yet to recommend unnecessary and overpriced tests, unlike other places we have gone.
Joanne J. replied:
Is like to also say I've had a good experience with Halifax Vet. Both doctors are kind and thoughtful.
Marie S. replied:
I second Dr. DeMarco at Kingston Animal Hospital. She is fabulous and explains the necessary and "would be nice" things and understands budget concerns. I'm curious which vet you had a bad experience with.
Lisa G. replied:
We went to Roberts in Hanover the first time for urgent care after hours, and our dog needed two surgeries. From talking to people, pricing seems to have been pretty reasonable for what she had done and the care has been excellent. They diagnosed her condition quickly (huge because it was time sensitive, and rare for a dog her size), and everyone there has been wonderful - they all know our dog, and everyone really seems to care. They have an onsite hospital, and you can call after hours if your pet is there. If you think surgery is in the future I would definitely check them out. Dr Patterson and Dr Tehrany saved her life.
Franny H. replied:
We go to Marshfield Animal Hospital and see Dr. Jeffrey Barrow. he is wonderful! Unfortunately a lot of vets are expensive, especially if your pet has some major issue. However, we have found Dr. Barrow to be very reasonable, and he will work with you to make treatments affordable.
Lisa M. replied:

Love Kingston Animal Hospital but not their prices. I guess in a pinch I'd go there but for regular, routine check ups, as I stated above, you can't beat Dr. Kenneth Roberts (Animal Clinic on Wheels) Right on 53. Not to be confused with Roberts Animal Hosp. in Hanover who is horrible.
Gail N. replied:
Kingston Animal Hospital does not have emergency treatment for your pet after hours,Sundays or holidays and if needed you will have to go another vet. I have been going there for many years and love Dr Rudin & Dr. Hess. I only wish they had emergency treatment available for those times.

Malis K. replied:
Court Street Animal, Dr.'s Stillman, McStay or Ross are wonderful. Dr. Norm met with us as a consultation to discuss his practice and philosophy after we had rescued our lab. We were not happy with the other area vet who felt that constant diarrhea problems would be corrected by feeding a cheap dog food with fillers. Dr. Norm and McStay have been treating my lab mix for the past 4 years and he loves going.

Diane S. replied:
I just wanted to let you know that most vets will deal with pet insurance so that should not be a problem. You have many great recommendations here- you can call and ask to speak to the vet at one or more of the animal hostpitals or take a tour if you want to make sure you have the right fit for you and your pet. (Full disclosure Norm Stillman is my husband but I'm not writing to plug him-I'm not objective- but to let you know it's all right to ask to talk to the vets and ask about philosophy, training, services, and prices before making your decision.)
