The Animal Rescue League is a great shelter and they work really hard to get their adult/senior animals homed. If the animal you adopt gets sick soon after the adoption (I think it's a couple weeks to a month) they'll cover veterinary costs. And they offer dog obedience classes at a steep discount if you adopt from them. The dog might not need them, but as a first time owner it'd be a fun learning experience.

Consider greyhound adoption. It's a great way of adopting an adult dog. http://www.greyhound.org/index.cfmhttp://www.gpamass.comhttp://www.greyhoundrescuene.orghttp://www.greycanine.com

I foster kittens through the MSPCA and it's been a great experience. They provide all medical and food (although I usually supplement with treats and extra toys out of pocket, what can I say, I'm a sotie) and the staff is fantastic. They foster dogs as well, and I think sometimes they even bring dogs up from overcrowded shelters in the south. Here's the info on fostering and the link for the application is at the bottom: http://www.mspca.org/adoption/boston/foster-opportunities/

In that area, I'd recommend Dr. Marina Caesar. A friend used her several years ago for a horse with a lameness issue and she wouldn't give up until she found the issue! Out my way, I use Jay Merriam with Mass Equine, he's absolutely amazing and has seen my "medical mystery" of a horse quite a bit over the five and a half years I've owned her. I don't know what I would have done without him for the things I've faced with her. Mass Equine also accepts Care Credit, which is the only way I've made it through all my vet issues!
Hello, I am just looking for recommendations on a vet! Tia

Looking for a recommendation for a good vet.... The kind that won't break the bank and try to guilt you into unnecessary treatments you wouldn't even do for your kids!
