I don’t really have an answer for you but I don’t really think you need a general contractor. Usually when someone says GC you think of a large project when you need to coordinate many different trades. You can act as your own GC and hire a couple different people to complete the work, it doesn’t sound like a very large project with complex scheduling. Doesn’t sound like you need any electrical or plumbing work done. It’s likely the person knocking down the wall can be the same person that will build the closet. Then hire a countertop company to complete the counter.
