I think Valley Orthopedic Inst (VOI) in Palmdale by the auto mall is very good (valleyorthos.com). So is Los Angeles Ortho attached to Palmdale Hospital (laortho.com). Dr. Alon Antebi is very good in Lancaster at AVORS (avorsmedgroup.com). See which one will get you in first! The ones with a nationwide reputation in LA is Kerlan-Jobe, closest office is in Pasadena (kerlanjobe.com). Southern California Orthopedic Institute (SCOI) has an excellent rep, closest office is Valencia (SCOI.com). That being said, the most important though perhaps not most urgent is to make sure your Brain stem isn't compromised so that your posture is straight while you heal and you don't get other health complications! For that I recommend GDEDC.com!
I need a great orthopedic surgeon. One who will listen to me, understand I am an athlete, and do shoulder surgery on my "focal superior labral tear" as a last resort....
Paul W. replied:
This guy is one of the best!!! http://santabarbaraorthopedicsurgery.com/
Mark L. replied:
Dr Silvino, Southbayortho.com. Did my knee and let me stay awake and watch, that's confidence. My wife is a PT and he is on a short list of allowed surgeons. She may have more, I'll ask.

Matt S. replied:
Barb, I go to DISC in Marina Del Rey. I have been very happy with them. Dr Brazina is my Dr. I have been to Kerlin Jobe, and Scoi and so far DISC has been the best for me. Mostly back and neck issues for me, they have numerous specialists. discmdgroup.com
Konrad K. replied:

Joe K. replied:
I sincerely have the BEST shoulder guy; I had a 360 degree label tear and he did a miracle and shoulders are his specialty....Dr. Joseph Burns through SCOI in So Cal....he's the best
Ifbb D. replied:
I go to SCOI too. It took four different DR's to actually suggest surgery. I'm having surgery on my elbow Thursday. He said that he has dealt with athletes of all kinds. My Dr is Dr. Hanker but he specializes on elbow/wrist/hands.
Barbara B. replied:

Dr Guanche with SCOI. I had hip surgery last May. Had a labral tear. He was a team Dr. for the Minn Vickings. He has designed instruments he uses for orthoscopic surgery. Physical therapist told me every patient they have had that he did their surgery always healed faster. He is great. You can get on line and read about him.

Kerlan Jobe for sure. They are the team DR for the lakers. Each Dr specializes in a different part of the body. When my husband needed elbow surgery (an implant of a cadaver tendon) they then referrd him to DR Itamori at USC. Kerlan Jobe is the #1 Ortho and must be a consideration. Howeoward Hughes parkway by LX.
Christine D. replied:

I would also recommend Dr. Karzel with SCOI. He did both my husbands shoulders and my knee along with several of our friends... stay away from Dr. Shaw!!!
Danny W. replied:
Kerlan-Jobe Clinic at Centinela Hospital is the best sports doctors on the west coast. They did surgery on my elbow back in the 90's, they are awesome.
Desiree M. replied:
SCOI is where I took both my boys when they needed their elbows put back together. Dr. Wiss did Kyke's surgery which was the worst of the two (not sure if he is still there or not), and the other Dt. I cannot even remember his name. I'm sorry this is happening to you -- I hope you are able to find someone you feel comfortable with!
Jeffrey B. replied:
I had shoulder surgery in January and I went to Dr. Shankwiler at Congress Medical Group in Pasadena. Great Dr... He also worked on a friend of mine with great results..
Tina B. replied:
To bad you're not looking in Utah. Orthopedic surgeons here specialize in Olympic athletes. My daughter had her ACL and MCL repaired by Olympic gold medalist, five times over, Dr. Eric Heiden. It doesn't get any sweeter than that!
Coleen H. replied:
Dr. Gregory Sobeck or Dr. Dominic Sisto. With Southern Orthopedic Institute.
Nicole M. replied:
Dr Ralph Gambardella at Kerlan & Jobe orthopedics in LA. He specializes in sports medicine... He did Zac's torn labrum in his shoulder. I know other people that have used him as we'll... I would never go to SCOI (just my personal opinion)
Barbara B. replied:
Melissa Keyes, I am not sure Eastern Medicine can heal a labral tear. Anyone know different?
Nicole M. replied:
Kerlan Jobe also treat professional athletes. Dodgers and Lakers as far as I know.
