We have it in our walkout basement with an engineered bamboo floor over it. The heating mat is 20 x9 ft and keeps floor toasty warm. I'd call it 'comfort heat' you turn on when using the room versus leaving it going all the time. The heating mats we used had a built in thermal layer to provide insulation between concrete and wood floor. The room we didn't put the heated floor, the floor gets awfully cold during winter. We used thermosoft here https://www.thermosoft.com/radiant_floor_heat
