I had a foal who broke his neck and he was not improving. Took to a top acupuncturist (did International sport horses). He went to sleep with needles on one side but hit the roof on the otherside. Two days of that and he started to improve that week. I now have a horse who was sore in his back and the acupuncurists helped him immensely - no longer needs it (also dxd ulcers on acupuncture points - at each point it can show you where ulcers are - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fr05 hMmLCY4
