I've been happy with both the leather halter and brass plate from Tack Shack of Ocala. Quillin, Albright's, KY Leather, and Danzig all do nice leather halters with custom brass (or chrome-plated brass) plates.

Tack Shack of Ocala. I got mine there, lots of customizable features and very nice quality. Reasonable price too.
Kelly J. replied:
Quillin is the BEST. I have halters from them that are over 20 years old and still look amazing. Customer service is top notch and the prices can't be beat for the quality. Chicks, Big Dee, Schneiders, and Smart Pak halters never last (especially the first 2).

Any stories about your hard keepers and using corn oil? Did it help them gain weight? Pros and cons?
Also.. I'm wanting custom leather halters for my boys? Anyone know...
Danielle L. replied:
Corn Oil can cause inflammation & make the horse hotter. It is also not very digestible for horses, so I don't suggest using it. I prefer Cocosoya Oil! It's cheap & works really well! As for halters, I get all of my leather halters from Schneider's!

Robin R. replied:
Corn Oil is horrible for horses, use Canola Oil instead less than $5 at grocery store for 1 Gallon Bottle. Otherwise, Dumor Ultra Shine powder formula (about $30 for 20 lb bag at Tractor Supply last about 3 mo's) has high amount of Fat & Omega 3 anti-inflammatory from Flaxseed, several Amino Acids that help fill in the topline and prevents Sand Colic. Also, Alfalfa Hay/Pellets are great for weight gain as well but some horses may get hot (1 flake daily to prevent ulcers and has a laxative effect). Good Luck!

Www.centralkentuckytackandleather.com Its the only place ill get halters for my ottbs and racehorses. They last forever, leather is best quality and mine still looks new after a year.
