If you want quality (and depends on what kind of ink you want to get) then you'll have a tough time since good artists have a looooong waiting list. Long Beach/San Pedro, check out http://www.socaltattoo.com/ Tom Berg is the one that did the Prison Break tattoo. Great black/grey tats. Alhambra has Ink Fiend, but the waiting list for Master Mike, last time I heard, was over a year. Great Asian art. https://brokenarttattoo.squarespace.com/ is another great one near Glendale, but again, waiting list may be long. American/Neo Traditional. Those are the three shops I have experience with. Good luck.

Long Beach has some incredibly talented artists but it really depends on the style you want. Long Beach is pretty well known for traditional style "Sailor Jerry" (heavy shading) so it might do you well to visit some of the shops in person.
