Thrift stores? I love thrift shopping. I enjoy looking through old stuff, new stuff, non-overpriced antiques, etc.
I'm new to Southern California. When I do a google...

Good luck finding steals, too many quick people about. My mom worked for goodwill corporate offices and she said they would always have store workers buying all the good stuff for cheap before any people got a look at them. Its a rampant problem they have.

The Magnolia Park section of Burbank has a ton of thrift shops. Basically Magnolia Blvd. between Hollywood Way and Victory Blvd.

Jet Rag on Melrose is fun - they have a $1 sidewalk sale every Sunday. I recommend you bring a bag for foraging thought the clothes included in the sidewalk sale. Plan to spend some time searching as there is quite a bit of junk but definitely some treasures to be found. Outside of the $1 sale I found anything inside to be fairly pricey, but if you know your brands etc it has a lot to offer and hours worth of browsing. Be warned purses and bags aren't allowed in unless they are VERY tiny. Good luck!

There are some inexpensive places on Main St. (south of Ocean Park) in Santa Monica. Some people go to Out of the Closet, It's a Wrap in Beverly Hills, Santee Alley in DTLA.

So not exactly in Los Angeles CITY, but if you ever drive north into the antelope valley (up the 5 and 14), Lancaster and Palmdale have really large barn looking buildings filled with relatively cheaper thrift goods. And if you're willing to drive even further, Bakersfield has some really AWESOME thrift shops, especially for bigger furniture pieces.

Check out the Pasadena City College flea market. I would recommend the Rose Bowl one, however you have to pay to get in. I've always loved the PCC one. Tons of stuff to check out and buy.

I would recommend the Goodwills in Santa Monica (on the Promenade), Los Feliz, and next to USC (especially right after the end of the semester). It definitely takes some time but there are great finds! Other great places are the [FIDM Scholarship Store](https://www.yelp.com/biz/fidm-scholarship-store-los-angeles) in DTLA, [National Council for Jewish Women thrift shops](http://ncjwla.org/council-thrift-shops/store-locations/) on the west side, and Melrose sidewalk sale.

Check out "Out of the Closet." I've also had good luck at Crossroads, a consignment store with locations all around. There are a lot of "vintage" stores around the Melrose area, but I think that a lot of them are overpriced and the clothes look like my grandma's rejects (and are often not in great condition). You should also visit the Melrose flea market, on the corner of Melrose and Fairfax Sunday mornings. They have kind of everything, just costs $3 to get in.

Valley Thrift Center is easily the best priced/quality store in the city.

Here are my favorites: Cherry Picked Thrift on Pico in Santa Monica, Out of the Closet in Venice and Silverlinings (consignment) on W Washington. Silverlining has a lot of sales so prices get knocked down. Cherry and Silver have free parking if you go around back. I hope you check them out.

Out of the Closet is the only one I usually go to. The one in Hollywood sucks, but the Echo Park location is pretty decent. I go there just about every week for books.

I'll be in L.A. in a few weeks. Can anyone recommend good junk stores? Not fancy antiques or vintage boutiques, more like dust and tetanus.

Not quite dust & tetanus, but used to check here when I lived nearby, just to see what they might have: http://ncjwla.org/council-thrift-shops/store-locations/

Generally antique craftsmanship is superior to the majority of modern jewellery, which is designed on computer and sent off to be cast en mass. If you can find an antique item in good condition, 9 times out of 10 you'll be getting higher quality at a lower price than a new piece. The condition part is key though, lots of older pieces exhibit wear.
Broke an antique bong today, anybody know a good repair shop in ann arbor? It was sitting on the floor next to me, I forgot it was there and stood up and to the side,...
