Depends on how deep you are going into it. I would say a basic knowledge if how credit cards work, interest, budgeting, emergency funds is good. Are you actually going into 401K and investing? I would try TD Bank. They have good resources online. They have a finance 101. I also believe they have things to hand out if you call one of their local branches, if you bank there. That was awhile back though.

If you don't mind me asking, what subject are you teaching? To teach high schoolers personal finance would be my dream job (and I live near south LA as well!), but from everything I've heard the California school system doesn't care about personal finance. I'll be graduating soon with a BA in English and then am planning on going to graduate school for Economics. Could you offer any advice?

His name is Joel Almquist with New England Financial/MetLife. 627-755-2202 He meets at his Woodland Hills office and is very goal oriented, personable and extremely knowledgable.
