I've used these guys several times. They are professional with very reasonable pricing. http://www.modernwarriorgunsmithing.com/

Since Randall isn't able to do the work (he would be my first recommendation), try John in Monterey Park (323) 722-3903. He's done a few things for me, works out of home and is a great guy. If he can't do it, let me know and I'll dig up another gunsmith for you, but whatever you do, stay away from Bolsa Gunsmithing, I hate those guys because they suck.

DONT go to Bulsa. I fixed many of the their fuck ups when I was LA. Or enterprise arms if they are still around. Shitty company's.

Just an update on this post. . . . I went to the Gunshow today and spoke with a few different gunsmiths and actually found one who can do the work and can get me in soon. I'll post my experience with them later if you all are interested.
Gun store recommendations? I'm going to be moving out of my dad's house soon and ~~given our budget we are likely to end up in a somewhat rough area~~ would like to have...

If it's for home defense you do not need to get a compact, or sub-compact pistol. Round capacity doesn't matter (they're all 10 rounds max around here), but the full-size pistols have more mass, and will reduce recoil. This will help your girlfriend. Also, do not use snake/rat shot, or ball ammo. Use self defense rounds (hollow point). They do not penetrate as much as ball ammo, and snake/rat shot is awful for self-defense.
Shotguns are great for home defense, and you could even get your girlfriend a 20-gauge (not as powerful, easier to shoot). Mossberg 500s are excellent. Take her to a range, and rent a couple shotguns. Bring some shells, and let her tell you if she's comfortable.
Shotgun pellets are also less likely to over penetrate when you utilize the right shotshell. #4 BUCKshot (not birdshot) is a solid choice. I would be concerned about over-penetration with anything larger than #1 buckshot, and I wouldn't go smaller than #4.
Edit: Mossberg 500s are inexpensive, and can be found almost anywhere. I got mine for $290 at Big 5. They even have a budget model that can get the job done: Maverick 88.
Edit 2: Apparently it needs to be mentioned that your home defense gun should always be loaded.

Why not get a shotgun instead of a pistol?

In addition to the gun you should also get an alarm system. Since you're likely to be in a rental, go with a wireless company like [SimpliSafe](http://simplisafe.com/) so you can take the equipment with you when you move. Uses 3M sticky pads and 5 year Li batteries. No contract, and the monitoring service is $15/mo. It's fully customizable, and it's a cellular based system so no home phone needed.
I'm not on the payroll, just a satisfied customer. They even have a panic button you can hit that silently sends an alert so the cops are on the way after you pull out your gun to confront the intruder. Best to be covered both ways.
And this topic has been hijacked by 3 or 4 gun nutjobs, so I'd read some of the comments that got down-voted for not being pro "kill them and let god sort it out" enough.

Hey Hive Mind - Where can I find the specific rules of minors with the use of guns/weapons....Thanks in advance
David B. replied:
As far as GUNS: Minors may only handle a fake or non-loaded gun, MAY NOT USE BLANKS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The law also states you can not use squibs of any kind on a minor. .... I get most of my rules/laws info in regards to minors from The Blue Book, which is put out by The Studio Teachers. It's a great resource. Check out thestudioteachers.com to get a hold of the book. Hope that helps.
David B. replied:
I believe the law just states the minor cannot be "in close proximity" to the firing, so it could be interpreted different ways but probably up to the Stunt Coord, Studio Teacher, and Parent in the end, whatever they are comfortable with. I do remember you can't point a gun towards the minor if you're using blanks, so you will need to use camera trickery or swap out the guns if it's being pointed at the minor. This is all from memory so don't take it as gospel. They are selling The Blue Book on the website. Good luck!
Anybody know a good gunsmith in the GTA? So I need to get some work done on my Norc 1911 -- namely a trigger and extractor job. Not sure how much work it'd be to do it...

Do you just want a new trigger / extractor installed? Or, do you want a "trigger job" and stuff polished up?
