Justin Horne SONOS is creating their own network separate from yours on a different frequency than Wifi I believe. That's why their sound quality is considered to be so good. I do have a single AP (latest Apple Extreme) which covers my entire house p retty much connected to a gigabit Ethernet in the house. Ok so for either SONOS or Apple AIrPlay the speakers are external and have to be placed somewhere in each zone. If I go for built-in speakers, then I n need a head-unit with multiple zones connected to multi-channel amp or such an amp built-in to the head unit and basically wire the speakers into it. I could do a SONOS amp or Apple TV wired into a multi-zone controller connected to the speakers.

It's also the reason why alot of high end cars put the 4 mids and tweets in the apillar. A speaker at your foot is a speaker at your foot. I am not some Internet message board junkie. I have built and tuned 1000 s of high end hone theater systems over the past 10 years. Before that I did very high end car audio. I have placed speakers below took them out and then placed above and visa versa. My work has been nationally published in electronic house and other publications. But if you really want a true answer feel free to email John Dale at thx and ask him about proper room setup.
