Sunergos and Highland Coffee are my personal favorites.

The Bean in Germantown is a great little spot as well. A lot of natural light and fairly quiet if you need to get work done.

Quills has some great coffee and won [America's Best Coffeehouse] (http://www.wdrb.com/story/29528745/louisvilles-quills-coffee-wins-americas-best-coffeehouse) 2 years ago. The location on Baxter is always a bit crowded, and can be pretentious, but regardless great place to get some work done. There are 2 other locations, with another opening this summer/fall. Sunergos, IMO, has the best cup of coffee in town. always super consistent, very DIY feeling in the shops on Preston and Woodlawn. they won [America's Best Espresso](http://www.bizjournals.com/louisville/news/2014/10/20/louisville-coffee-roaster-wins-america-s-best.html) in 2014.The have 3 locations total. Heine Brothers is the oldest coffee shop in town, starting back in 1994. They have 13 stores throughout Louisville. I am partial to HB because I am a manager at one of them, haha! HB is not your craft coffee shop like Quills and Sunergos is. It serves the community as a local alternative to Starbucks. It is a staple in the Louisville community, in my opinion. Every store is different and has its own sense of community depending on where it is. Vint is also owned by HB, this is their 'experiment' store. They have the best outside sitting area in all of Louisville. Definitely one of my favorite shops in town. Please and Thank You is also a great shop. There are 2 locations in Louisville. They pride themselves on being a bakery first, but they serve a damn good cup of coffee and espresso drinks from a local roaster, Goodfolks. You should at least visit and get one of their cookies! Arguably one of the best in the city! I honestly wouldn't even give Highland Coffee and Safai a second thought. Safai's coffee is always over extracted, leaving a bitter taste, and they tend to over steam their milk. Highland Coffee is a pain in the ass to find parking and I've never been impressed with any of their products. Their baristas also tend to be snotty. I really try to be supportive of all the shops in Louisville because every store has their own identity and serves a different community. But I typically point people away from those two on the basis that their product is just not very good. I'm pretty familiar with the in's and out's of the coffee scene in Louisville being in the field. I hope this is helpful, best wishes on your move, and welcome to Louisville!

If you want actually good coffee, then Sister Beans. They don't do the exotic flavors like everything already mentioned, just a good cup. Only drawback might be the vibe - it's mostly older w/o a hipster in sight.

Highland coffee, sunergos, and quills.

Safai is by far the best coffee shop in the city. I'm over here in New Albany and all we have in terms of Coffee is Quills, a couple of local shops that use Sunergos (410 Bakery, Bike and Bean (Jeff), and Coffee Crossing (Jesus Coffee)), and then Starbucks (no). I made the trip over to Safai and the chairs were so comfy, the shop was in an awesome location, and great coffee of course. I wish they'd open up Safai in more locations, it's just how I imagine a coffee shop should be. It's probably what Starbucks corporate office thinks their stores are like, and not the McDonalds-tier service/ambiance/cleanliness like it really is.
What's the best coffee shop around our area? Suggestions!? I like Starbucks, but it's always too busy and loud when I go in there. I don't get to go in and relax often,...

Sister Beans or Sungergos

By far Sunergos. Quills on Baxter is epic and the best in the whole city, Cafe Classico on Frankfort Ave.
Dennis L. replied:
I love Sister Beans. Nice people, a good place to relax and have one of their delicious beverages. They also do charity work, raising money for hungry children, blood mobile, etc.
Melissa M. replied:
I always feel out of place at sunergos. I think the baristas are snooty! Don't particularly like the drinks either. I think the environment isn't very cozy by any means. Sister Beans is always friendly and welcoming and very cozy and kid friendly! And the drunks are yummy!
Donna B. replied:
Well, this is looking like a band battle, lol. Both options are great and we're lucky to have a choice between the two. I've found the barista's at Sunergos to be pleasant, but the young guy at Sister Beans is one of the friendliest people on the planet. Both have quality products. If you keep your kids out of daycare so they don't get sick, then you really don't want them playing with community toys (just a thought). If I'm not mistaken, that's a code violation as well. All being said...they're both great (do eeny meeny on your fingers and choose!)

Is there a coffee shop in VS going to be build and if so just where is it going to be? I hope we get one closer to the area and not a Starbucks. It would be cool to meet...
Who wants to see a 1st class coffee shop in Valley Station?
Laura L. replied:
I buy a bag of coffee from Sunergos on Woodlawn every Saturday. I love their coffee and their employees are extremely pleasant. I think a Heine Bros, a Sunergos or a Sonoma Coffee Shop would be a great addition to our area.
Marty M. replied:
Well funny you should mention Heine Bros. My boss, Councilman Yates, has been working with the folks at Heine Bros for the last 6 months to do just that. We were put on hold in the fall because of their new merger but hope to be back on track soon. Mike Mays the owner has said they are extremely interested in expanding in the southend and we have recommended two prime locations on Dixie.
Jerry H. replied:
An Amsterdam Cafe or Blunt Brother Cafe would be a nice addition!
