Pet Vet Lower Hutt- cannot recommend these guys enough from my experience with my dog, they are well worth the travel to LH (and I am city based).

If you are in any northern suburbs Rappaw vets have 4 clinics. Privately owned by Ian Schraa (not a franchise). Rappaw have amazing vets and all fully qualified nurses and are a fully accredited Best Practice Vet hospital. They have full surgery digital xray ultrasound and the latest lab technology. My husband forgot to say that we don't need a vet, we need to buy the special food that our cat requires. After hours doesn't sell food and Central vet is closed btw

I am no longer in Wellington BUT there is an avian vet, at PetVet, which has branches in Lower Hurt, Taita and Silverstream. Dr Christine, on this page http://www.petvet.net.nz/Petvet_Team.html she really knows her stuff and taught me so much. I believe she is the only avian vet in the greater Wellington area. She may be willing to have a chat with you on the phone to decide whether a vet appointment is required

Dr C is also a very good microbiologist. I have known her to take samples and have a peek down the scope on the spot to diagnose various bacterial and fungal infections

I really like Dr. Hoke at Dark Horse Vet. She's "technically" in Fort Collins, but is located on Highway 1, about 5 minutes out of town.

Dr. Stone at Wellington Vets is great. She is incredibly compassionate, knowledgeable and really cares about her animal patients and their humans. The staff there is amazing as well.
