Annie - I'm not into tatoos for myself, but: for true artistry and designs that transcend the usual tat imagery, see Kelty Carew of Spike-O-Matic, https://www.keltycarew.com/

Kelty Carew at Spike O' Matic Tattoo is AMAZING. She did two on me and they are so cool and lovely
Very talented tattoo artist. Hello, need some help! Just moved here and looking for a tattoo artist that specializes in realism. Looking to get a portrait of my son...
Concept_Check replied:
I suggest you follow the Wisconsin Tattoo Artists Instagram account. I’ve been doing some research for my next piece and it’s super helpful for finding styles and artists in the area.

Depending on the style you are looking for, Jes Strickler over at Iron Quill does some pretty awesome stuff.

Jeremy Brown, the owner of Bad Apple on E Wash, specializes in portraits. His work is stunning. Here's a FB album: [https://www.facebook.com/pg/BadAppleTattooCo/photos/?tab=album&album\_id=972644232792479&ref=page\_internal](https://www.facebook.com/pg/BadAppleTattooCo/photos/?tab=album&album_id=972644232792479&ref=page_internal) There might be a wait to get in with him, but totally worth it in my opinion. I've sat in his chair for over 20 hours. All the best on your new art!

[Lady B](https://www.ladybeatattoo.com) is talented, but she has a list of things she won't do. Looks like a lot of her work is nature related. If you're willing to travel, the folks at [Chicago Ink](https://www.chicagoinktattoo.com) are amazing. If you can wait until late September, the [Milwaukee Tattoo Convention](https://villainarts.com/tattoo-conventions-villain-arts/milwaukee-tattoo-arts-convention/) is happening. I'm pretty sure you could find someone who meets your needs there. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more in town here, I haven't looked around at every shop much lately.
Good place to get inked? I'm looking for a tattoo shop in Madison with a good reputation. Can anyone recommend a place?

Jon Bass at Taylor Made Tattoo on Willy St. He does traditional tattoos. He's no bullshit, but a funny dude. He did my last one: http://i.imgur.com/EEZuuLx.jpg You can see his recent stuff on istagram: http://instagram.com/jonbass1

Ultimate Arts on the east side. Wouldn't go to any other place.

I second Ultimate Arts, while I only have one tattoo my bro-in-law and sister have many. They all look AMAZING years later.
Piperoo replied:
Taylor Made or Steve's on Williamson! Seneca Marks at Steve's is awesome.

I just got an awesome custom Tattoo from Erik England at Verno's on E. Wash. It turned out fucking amazing. He also has done some for other friends as well, and they have all turned out really great. Not to mention Less Than Jake called him a cunt at their last Madison show, for having "wiscoholic" tattooed above his eyebrow...
Painted8Lady replied:
Eldritch Bros. Tattoo and Piercing. I go to Jack Ozimeck. He used to be at Tailor Made but recently opened up his own shop with some family and one of the girls from Blue Lotus. Beautiful shop, awesome people!

I recommend Steve's. I know they seem to have a bad wrap but, both of my tattoos have been done by Dave there and they're amazing. I have a small black and grey calla lily on my hip that has beautiful shading that I only had to have touched up because if how my pants rubbed on it while it was healing. My second is a large piece covering the majority of my upper inner arm, almost watercolor like, it's a cherry blossom branch. Let me know if you'd like to see photos as a reference. I also had my belly button pierced there when I was 18, 8 years ago when it was the cool thing to do.
Looking for first piece advice and suggestions on artists in Madison/Milwaukee/Chicago Hi r/Tattoos,
I'm looking into getting my first piece done, I have been browsing...
