So, as a former Kg teacher of 17 years (now 2 nd grade) and mom of an August baby...we red-shirted our daughter last year. She also knew all her letters, sounds, sight words, etc. We sent her to Wee Sprouts (4 s class) last year and called it Pre-K. (She had completed 2 years at another preschool too). They were awesome at keeping her challenged and engaged. I doubt they have spots, but you never know! She is rocking Kinder this year as a new 6 year old.

We love Rainier Christian Schools. We have been involved with the school district for 4 years. The principal at the Maple Valley campus is a wonderful man, who cares for the staff and he truly attempts to get to know the kids as individuals. I know some of the staff at the preschool personally and they are all loving and have a good time working together. You can feel free to private message me if you would like more info. I have two kids currently there and one has moved on to Rainier Christian Middle School.

There are many great ones in the area and you have gotten wonderful recommendations. Just be aware that many will all ready be full, as registration typically opens in February. I teach at Tahoma Cooperative Preschool and if you are interested in being involved in your child's education along with getting to bond with many parents yourself I would encourage you to contact us about taking a tour to see our program. We have openings for 3's in our afternoon class and maybe one spot in our afternoon 4's class. The other classes are currently full with waitlists. Good luck with your search. There are so many great programs in the area, it is just finding the right fit for you and your child as different schools have different philosophies and strengths.

I will be teaching the 2 year old class at Tahoma Cooperative Preschool next fall and we still have a few spots open. It is just one morning a week but lots of fun for both the kids and parents. Since she won't be 3 until November it may be hard to find a program that is more than one day a week for that age.

Cynthia S. replied:
ASL is always evolving while SEE stays the same. Yes, you can watch all the videos and learn about the language but it isn't 100% accurate. It's a complex language to learn and culture has a lot to do with how you sign and express how you convey the message (facial, body language, tones, and the list goes on.) I am putting together a proposal to teach ASL in a small class here in MV for this fall.:-) Often, I've been asked to teach ASL because I'm very passionate to expose MY CULTURE in the best light as possible. So I'm doing that! I'm excited!
Cynthia S. replied:
I recommend this: contact HSDC (Hearing, Speech@Deafness Center in Seattle and get in touch with a director that helps enroll deaf toddlers in PIP (Parent Infant Program). They take toddlers from ages 2 1/2-5 to help teach Sign Language, interact with other deaf toddlers, and meet other parents for support and resources. The website is www.hsdc.org then look for pip link..then it should show who to contact. HSDC is like a pit stop where you can ask for resources and referral to different services for deaf babies, children, teenagers, adults and senior citizens. I used to work there. Amazing place to gather info and resources!:-)
Jennifer L. replied:
SEE= Signed Exact English ASL=American Sign Language ASL is its own language, so the sentence structure is different than English. Example...in SEE you'd sign each word in "Do you want to go to the store?" but in ASL it would translate to more like "You, me store go?"
