Skin and Hair Treatments From "Coconut Cures"by Bruce Fife, available from Credence Bookstore. P.156. "... apply coconut oil ... It not only heals injuries but skin problems of almost every kind. It cleanses the skin from acne, soothes rashes, and kills skin and nail fungus such as athletes foot, jock itch, and ringworm. Even age spots and wrinkles show improvement when massaged daily with coconut oil. I don't think there is a skin condition that coconut oil can't help. ... All they need to do is put it on their skin. That's it. ... Once you start applying the oil to the skin on a regular basis, you will see a transformation. Rough, dry, flaky skin starts to become smooth, soft, and younger looking. Acne, psoriasis, and other skin problems begin to disappear." P.157. "Using coconut oil as a daily skin lotion will strengthen the skin and underlying tissues, help protect it from injury, promote and speed healing, and fend off invading germs that cause infection and illness. Your skin will look and feel softer and healthier. " P.158. "Wherever the skin is thick, rough, scaly, dry, bumpy, damaged, discoloured or otherwise affected, massage the oil into the skin and allow it to soak in. The oil should be rubbed or massaged into the skin and not simply brushed on like a layer of paint. You should work it into the skin for best results. Don't use too much oil the skin will absorb the oil to the point of saturation. After which, the oil will simply pool on the surface of the skin and just be wiped off on your clothes. Apply just enough that it will soak completely into the skin in about 10 minutes. If needed, you can reapply the oil after an hour or so. Don't be afraid of putting the oil on your face. If you don't use too much, it will not make your face look greasy it will actually improve your complexion and appearance. Excessively dry skin may need several applications." -------------- Also from "Coconut Cures" p.160. Hair Care. Coconut oil can do wonders for your hair. It will give it a shine and healthy lustre as well as enrich its natural colour. Some claim that it helps prevent both premature graying and baldness. It is also great for the scalp and helps control dandruff. As a hair treatment, apply a liberal amount of oil to your scalp and work it in. One or two teaspoons of oil is a good amount. Work it in like a massage. The hair and scalp should be completely coated in oil but not so much as to be dripping wet. Allow the oil time to soak in. The longer you can wait before washing it out the better. I recommend at least 15 minutes and preferably 30 to 60 minutes, longer if possible. ... ... Coconut milk is also known as an excellent hair conditioner. It is reported that using coconut milk promotes hair growth and if your hair is beginning to turn gray, the new growth will come in with your natural hair colour." -------------
