I think this whole vet thing has gone crazy and has become a money making scheme. There are natural remedies that you can find to help with arthritis and even heart worm! Search google for some answers or ask.com. My dog has lymes disease, which is painful joints. My vet wanted me to give her a shot once a year but I have found that giving her a massage helps her alot!!

Does anyone know a Neurologist in Central FL (I live in Melbourne but it can be Orlando, Stuart, etc) that specializes in brain injuries. I'm 3 years...

You need a neuropsychologist. Dr. Cohen is the best, only person that went to bat for us and also the only one that told us the truth about what we are facing. He has his own office in winter park now but I also believe he still works out of ormc. Even now we pay out of pocket for follow ups because we still haven't found a neurologist in central florida that is anything other than a overpriced pill pushing pain management sell out.

Good luck in your search; I fully understand your pain. 7 years post TBI similar educational background. Finding good Drs. is always a challenge; I suggest that you also ask God to help you find the right Drs. Just know that you are not alone and you are going thru a grieving process of who you were to who you are now. God Bless and sending my prayers and positive healing energies to help strengthen you thru this time.

You also might need to temper your expectations too. If you are walking, talking and have your seizures under control that is about all they can do for you. Dr Cohen can help you understand where your deficits are, but there isn't a cure or a way back to whom you were. Ongoing counseling to cope is your best bet because you aren't going to get fixed by a pill bottle.

I would suggest going to a Functional Neurologist. The Carrick Brain Center in Georgia. It would be worth your trip. They get it there. They would help you tremendously. They have done wonders for our son. Check out our website madtbi. org. Best of luck to you

You may just need to skip the Neuro and go to a Neuropsychologist. They do the testing to find where the injury affected your brain. I am a high functioning TBI person. I had all of my cognitive and reasoning abilities destroyed in my accident. They could see I had an issue from what I talked about, but the testing showed where it was, and what needed to be worked on. Recently I saw Dr. Dano Leli in Maitland and redid some testing when I thought my training had fallen apart because I was having massive issues with word retrieval and memory again. They were very helpful. He is with Maitland Psychology, (407) - 628-5354. Here is a link to their site as well. Good luck!!!! http://maitlandpsychology.com/index.html

If you have not had a neuropsycological test done, I would start there. I had one done right after my accident and just had a second test (4 years later)that confirmed the brain injury is still there. And yes your entire life is turned upside down. My neuro - psychologist is Dr. Tracey Henley in Lakeland Fl. From there I was referred to Dr. Weinberg a psychiatrist with Watson Clinic (who specializes in TBI and studied TBI at Shands Hospital) He is wonderful.
