Fans, headed down to RVA for the marathon this weekend and looking for a good place to fuel up the night before. Best beer/pizza/restaurant ideas? I'll be staying near...
Ryan C. replied:
Mellow Mushroom has the best pizza/beer combo IMO. It isn't specific to RVA but there are only two in the state. Also, It's not pizza but I've heard great things about Legend Brewery's restaurant. It has a beautiful view of the city and I can say that their beer is great.
Nick G. replied:
Not pizza but we have arguably one of the best burgers in RVA and a decent beer list to go with it at Burger Bach :) https://trinkin.com/places/262?city=1
Tammara M. replied:
I'd maybe grab a good pizza and calimari from Mary Angela's in Carytown and just head down the road to Triple Crossing with it. Win win baby. (also though, Burger Bach is deeeeelish)
This is far from a serious post. I just moved to Midlothian from Louisiana. I am looking for a good Greek place with Chicken shwarma - Do any of you have any restaurants...

And the Armenian Food Fest is the weekend of Sept. 20-23! http://armenianfoodfestival.com/
Heather D. replied:
Crazy Greek is good, don't know about the Chicken Shwarma though. They also have a location near Woodlake off of Hull Street.
Stephanie H. replied:
The Phoenician is close to the Crazy Greek, but MUCH better. I highly recommend it. And be sure to check out the yearly Lebanese Festival in Glen Allen! Welcome to Richmond!
Katie M. replied:
Oops, the link didn't attach for the Mediterranean Bakery - http://www.mediterraneanbakeryanddeli.net. They've got chicken shawerma. Stephanie is right about the Lebanese Festival, and the Armenian Festival at St. James Church is wonderful too!
Good authentic Italian delis/markets? Not new to the area, but know some people that are. Was wondering if anyone could recommend any good, authentic Italian...
RVAblues replied:
I hear good things about Pop’s. Nick’s International Foods and Stella’s markets might be close enough (both Greek). And actually, if you think they’d be okay with just “Mediterranean”, 2M Mediterranean Market is pretty damn good.
zstansberries replied:
Thanks for the replies! I originally told them we didn't have anything of the likes they were looking for. They're from the north and are used to Italian neighborhoods where those markets are common. I will recommend these options at least! Just because it's not exactly what they're looking for doesn't mean they can't find something they like!
wcczmc616 replied:
Wish we had a solid Italian market in RVA. Market vibes that I can think of are Nick’s, Coppola’s, and Bombolini - actually makes pretty decent grinders. Most authentic sandwiches will be from Chiocca’s. Being a restaurant, it won’t have the deli you’re looking for though. Please enlighten me if there’s somewhere in RVA where you can find authentic Italian meats and cheeses if I’m unaware.
MrPlowThatsTheName replied:
Europa Food Market should have what they need. It’s not strictly Italian but has a good amount of Italian treats. www.europava.com If they’re ever in Arlington, they must stop at the legendary Italian Store. One of the best Italian deli/markets you’ll find anywhere in the USA.
thoselongsleeves replied:
[Coppola's Deli in Carytown](http://www.coppolasdeli.com/market_items.html) has all of that stuff.
rvaguy89 replied:
Bombolini.

I think you could pick and choose a pretty good assortment from the Wegman's deli.

Janice S. replied:
Hi Carrie, there are a lot of good cafe stops on the island and all are cycle friendly. In Brodick try Janie's at Duchess Court Shops, Lochranza has Stags and the Sandwich Station at the pier, in Machrie there is Cafe Thyme then Machrie Tearoom at the Golf Club. Southend of the island has Lagg Hotel, Whiting Bay has Coffee Pot and Coast then Lamlash has the Old Pier Cafe. Which way are you heading first - north or south?
