Silverwood Park in Columbia Heights is gorgeous for venue and wedding photos. If you're looking for a great venue for a reasonable price, the Best Western in Plymouth has a great space and their catering menu is amazing! Also, their events coordinator, Susan, is absolutely phenomenal! As for DJ, if you request a quote through Bella Gala, you get a huge discount on their DJ services if you book within a couple of weeks from when you requested the quote. It's a huge savings for an extremely reputable service!

Events by MV! Adrian was awesome. He will play exactly what you request. McNamara is also one of his favorite wedding venues to DJ. http://eventsbymv.com/. He posts a calendar of availability on his website.
Megs H. replied:
Dj Bob with Party unit is a great DJ! He played music at our ceremony and for the dinner/dance. He had some cool up lighting too.
Erin M. replied:
We just had our wedding last month and had John A. with Instant Request - I couldn't recommend him highly enough!! Our dance floor was packed for 3 straight hours!
Megan L. replied:
We used DJ Birnie from Complete! He was so great! Really took the time to get to know us and our style of music before the wedding.
Erin N. replied:
I don't know if you've checked with them yet, but Music Mix Entertainment is fantastic! http://www.musicmixentertainment.com/home They provided two DJs and did music for both our ceremony and reception for $575 (price likely higher now; can likely get some money off if you say I referred you). We talked with them by phone, had a check in meeting with Mannix to get a better idea of what music we wanted, and did a site visit at McNamara (University Hall side) to talk more about what we wanted for the day. They asked thoughtful questions and I honestly didn't even worry or think about them day-of because they were on time and checked in with me briefly as needed. They were very professional, played fantastic music, and quickly and easily purchased any songs we wanted that they didn't already have. I highly highly recommend them.

We had our reception at South Lakes Park. It is nice but a little small depending on how many people you have attending. Newcastle Community Center is another nice place. It is actually where the library is.

Anyone hear about any local bars having Halloween costume contests with actual cash prizes? TELL ME WHAT YOU KNOW!
Everything I see so far is "and sick prizes". ...
Todd M. replied:
I've gone to the First Avenue costume contest twice: once as Predator, and once as Black Dragon. I didn't win anything with Predator, but I got my picture in the Star Tribune. Black Dragon was one of the finalists and I got up on stage, but I was beaten by some more visually punny costume. (I think it was Toiletron, a Transformer-like toilet.) Don't go to a bar costume contest expecting to win an actual cash prize based on workmanship. If you just want to have some fun on Halloween while in costume, that's fine, but remember that you're dealing with people in a bar. I can tell you some place that's a lot more fun for the Halloween season, but you'd have to take Highway 212 past Chaska and into Dahlgren Township for that.
