Just walk around Jackson Heights Queens during the day/early evening- TONS of places and awesome grocery stores, meat markets & bodegas. Get off the subway at Jackson Heights/Roosevelt ave and just explore. Walk down to 37 th Ave and there's even more stuff. I'm not sure of the "east" vs North or South variety but if there's a place to ask around, I'd say Jackson Heights is a good starting point.

If you're venturing into Queens, [Jackson Diner](http://jacksondiner.com/) is a good staple, but right around the corner is [Khaabar Baari](http://www.yelp.com/biz/khaabar-baari-restaurant-queens) - which is the most authentic Bangladeshi food I've come across outside of my own kitchen.

My friend is Bengali. She took me to a restaurant on 6 th St. between 1 st and 2 nd Ave (Where else?) I think it's called Agnon. Super good - you should ask them to make it more traditional though, it's what she does when we go there.

Yes! Restaurant 1833 is Monterey. Basil in Carmel. Ventana in Big Sur. Sol Bar (at Solage) in Calistoga (just a bit north of Napa). For wineries: Duckhorn and Rombauer.
