Has anyone ever tried to list the many different mechanics that can be used in a game?
Jason T. replied:
http://boardgamegeek.com/browse/boardgamemechanic
Thomas L. replied:
I think many game designers have tried (and mostly failed). "The 400 Project" by some of the granddaddies of video game design springs to mind: http://gameonwebdesign.com/RulesList.html The problem is that rules, mechanics, guidelines and such don't easily distill into discreet sets of boxes. Some rules contain other subrules and so on. Additionally there are a large number of ALMOST similar rules. Should these be indiviual or part of a category? Also the list would never be complete. At least claiming it to be complete would be the same as stating "there will never be a new type of game invented". These factors (and others I'm sure) kind of makes it a fools errand.
Thomas L. replied:
But I should say that I'm don't think lists of mechanics are useless as sources of inspiration. Just dont take them as facts or set in stone. I'd also recommend Jesse Schell's "A book of Lenses", which are different angles on game design and mechanics you might use http://www.amazon.com/The-Art-Game-Design-lenses/dp/0123694965
Matthew P. replied:
I like think this a pretty good list of mechanics and game types. Funny you bring this up because the guy who wrote it is Geek of the Week on boardgamegeek. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/581158/an-alternative-classification-of-board-games-longhttp://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/54833/the-taxonomy-of-board-games-table-of-contents-and

We take our car to Darling's in Manchester. He has been good to us. He even opened up for us one morning when he was closed and drove us back down to Nashua. 669-6827 or ...-28
Chris C. replied:
if you have an android phone you can pickup a code reader for 18 dollars http://www.amazon.com/Small-Elm327-Obd-ii.../dp/B005M1AVFQ
Liam E. replied:
That's really weird, diagnostics can usually at least give a code even if it can't expand out the code for you. If you don't get the opportunity to take Ross up on his offer or if another reader doesn't do the trick and you don't just want to ignore th e light until the next inspection then http://www.gurneysautomotive.com/ is far and away the best and most honest shop in Nashua for car work. Its not the cheapest but they won't try and rip you off, we get all our work done there. Welcome to the joy of POS American cars smile emoticon
