arlington heights has two locations in the area, one that just opened in the past year right next to the south side kroger (not the one on 2nd street; further south past South high school). the other is just northwest of town. i've taken my four cats there for the past few years and have had great experiences. they are all really nice people and have always been very friendly. not sure if this is typical but if you explain your issue to them they will try to save you some money (i think it's $40 to see the vet) by not requiring a vet appointment to receive certain medication. just always call before going in to explain your situation.
they also have a website where you can schedule appointments and keep a profile of each of your cats. if you're in a pinch, calling early in the morning can usually get you squeezed in somewhere, they seem pretty okay with doing that.

I take my cats (and my parrot) to Bloomington Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Koch is wonderful and I highly recommend him. I've also seen Dr. Mary Alice Cox and she's great with cats. We've been taking our pets there for over 10 years and have always had great experiences! http://bloomingtonvethospital.com/

Best vet and cheapest, hands down (have dealt with many vets in btown): http://www.beanblossomanimalclinic.com/ Unfortunately, you need a car, its a tad bit of a trip, and a looooong wait to see the vet. for this reason, I go to arlington and they are fabulous as well.
