Recommendations for a pediatric gastroenterologist please. If he/she is good I have no trouble traveling a little. Thank you.

Not sure what you are dealing with but after 2 drs who scoped my son a year apart- then told us he would be on two meds daily for the rest of his life we took him to see Dr Carney in Newtown and found my son was reacting to gluten and dairy- he is gluten dairy & medication free now
Sherri S. replied:
We've also gone thru a couple of drs (only one scoping). I'm curious about Dr. Carney.
Sara Q. replied:
Dr Porto in Greenwich and I think he has an office at Yale too. He is great!
Can anyone recommend a pediatric gastroenterologist?
Leah D. replied:
Dr Glassman in Norwalk. It is a hike but the best doctor I have ever seen.

We used the Children's Hospital in Hartford and it was fine. Waiting list can be a bear. Best thing was to get another doctor to make the appointment. We had to continue commuting back to Boston's Childrens for a couple of months after we moved. We had surgery at Yale New Haven Childrens and can't say enough good things about the experience. If I had to do it again I'd check there for a GI but the Hartford doctor was who our Boston doc referred to. (This was years ago, and surgery resolved the issues that required us to be under constant GI care).

How old a child Sheri? There are various blood tests for clues towards celiac and inflammatory bowel diseases but much of the diagnosis is based on history. Ultrasound is noninvasive and would show some abnormalities. Is she growing at a normal pace? Any journaling you can start in advance of getting an appointment noting food intake, mood, allergy symptoms, bowel habits - general Mom observations:-) will help the doctor narrow things down. I wish I knew a pediatric GI to recommend but I ended up at the Mayo Clinic in MN myself last year before finally getting my Crohn's diagnosed correctly. Happy to answer any nurse-y questions if I can be of assistance:-) and hope she feels better soon. P.S. I know of a grade schooler who had problems like this who has been diagnosed with a pancreatic rest which caused acid reflux. She was diagnosed after an endoscopy, started acid reducing meds and has no further problems!
Erin M. replied:
Yes to blood testing for Celiac but she needs to have gluten in her diet. There's also genetic testing. A naturopath could offer other options as well. I've seen Dr. Carney in Newtown. We are also looking for a pediatric GI.
Sheri L. replied:
Jennifer - she is 5 and a half. We have an appt at the end of March with Dr. Hyams but I'm going to call Glassmam next week based upon all the feedback.

We used Dr. Porto at Yale children's. We really liked him.

Dr Glassman in Norwalk! He is a gem!
Yana R. replied:
Dana Zeiter from CMC in Hartford. She comes to Danbury and Fairfield once a month though.
Yana R. replied:
The thing with Dr. Glassman is that he really listens to you and to your child. He does not rush with anything invasive right away and throws you on meds just to try and see...
Can anyone recommend a pediatric gastroenterologist? Will travel for the right doctor if he/she can help my 6 month old son

Patty L. replied:
Dr Pierog in Norwalk, same office as dr Glassman
Monica M. replied:
Dr. Glassman is seriously amazing. I had heard from friends that most other pedi gastros recommend to stop breastfeeding; Dr. Glassman not only encouraged me to continue, but he also was a fountain of info re what I could eat, etc. My daughter had a milk protein intolerance, causing her to have terrible silent reflux. He takes the time needed with each patient, is incredibly patient, etc.
