Mt. Pleasant Hospital for Animals hands down! (203) 426-8585. The entire staff is wonderful and so caring!
Liz L. replied:
Monroe Animal Hospital, Entire Staff really care about your animal. Dr Martin Burg is a Newtown resident. 270 Main St, Monroe, 203-261-2692!! His associate Dr Waldo is great too!!
Rebekah H. replied:
I second Dr. Elwell in Roxbury. Wonderful and well worth the short drive. By far the best office we've used in the area.
Monica M. replied:
We take our dog to Dr. Heidinger in Ridgefield. He doesn't have a bedside manner, as he's painfully shy, but he's phenomenal with animals. His brother is his receptionist, and he's awesomely hilarious.
Shari P. replied:
Agreed Kate O'Connor !!!!
Joan P. replied:
It's not in Newtown, but we love Bethel Village Square Animal Hospital.
Alissa H. replied:
We'll said Wendy Harrington. Dr Vali is wonderful and the staff is so dedicated. He treats many of the shelter animals also.
Denise B. replied:
Dr. Elwell in Roxbury is worth the trip (about 25 minutes) he is truly doctor doolittle - handles large farm animals down to itty bitty = and due that that reason he is reasonably priced.
Can anyone recommend a good vet ( for my dog) in the area?
Christine P. replied:
Brookfield Animal Hospital on Federal Rd. All graduates of Cornell Veterinary Med, well trained and knowledgeable

We had a bad experience at Berkshire so for the past 12 years we have been going to Dr. Loeven at Middlebury Animal Hospital. My mother has been taking her pets there for the past 30 years.

Dr. Antosiewicz aka Dr.A Valley Vet Hospital Danbury Rd New Milford across the st from NM High School is excellent he does food consults and does accupuncture and many other modalities I just switch my pet over from an area Vet for a food consultant, but will continue to use him.
Kim T. replied:
I vote for dr. Vali at Mt Pleasant too. I had to put my 17 yo down recently and the made this very difficult time so much easier. They have a comfortable room set aside for this and let us take our time with her. They sent me flowers and a card after.
Jen R. replied:
Martin Burg at Monroe Animal Hospital. Good with dogs and patient with the owners, too.
Liz S. replied:
Hi, Emily! We've been using Mt Pleasant hospital for 14 years and love them.

Bethel Village Square- Dr. Paulin or Dr. Power.

Dr. Burg . . . He is from Newtown too.
Jenn H. replied:
Monroe Animal Hospital. Both Dr Burg and Dr Waldo are great!
Jen R. replied:
My neighbor uses Newtown vet center. She has been going there with her dogs for years, primarily for the previous vet who retired. She admits that dr. mIxon isn't a people person, but he is great with dogs and very good at what he does. He successfully removed a large cancerous tumor from her dog's neck, and the dog is doing well. That said, I prefer working with someone who can communicate well with people. That's why I like Dr. Burg.
Karen J. replied:
Dr. Baff at Plumtree in Danbury
Monica M. replied:
I've been taking my animals to Dr. Heidinger in Ridgefield for over ten years. Adore him. He's not a people person, but animals trust him. He's incredibly and painfully shy, but his brother is his receptionist, and he more than makes up for it. His clinic is not state of the art, and he is no bells and whistles, and this he translates into less overhead being passed to the clients.
Can anyone recommend a local vet? The one we are currently using for the puppy we just rescued, Bethel Village, has not been my favorite.
Heather S. replied:
We've been going to Brookfield Animal Hospital for years and really like it.
Whitney G. replied:
Sally Kniffen at Redding Ridge Vet. Been going there for 20+ years. Very Small, very funky office- but an honest love of animals ( and good prices) bring people back over and over.
Susan H. replied:
I actually had an unpleasant experience with Mt. Pleasant. When Sally was away once, my cat got really, really sick and was in a lot of pain. I called Mt. Pleasant and explained what was happening. The person on the phone was rather snotty and said they couldn't see her for a few days. When I again explained she seemed to be in a lot of pain, I was told to "deal with it" until they could fit her in. I ended up using another vet in Monroe for that one visit, but went right back to Sally.
Kimie B. replied:
I've had good experience with Newtown Vet Center on 25 right by Riccis.
Suzanne G. replied:
I like Dr. Mixon. Pretty down to earth. He has a yearly fee that involves well visits and all vaccinations, plus covers the visit fees (but not meds) for sick visits. Staff is nice and they get us in pretty quickly.
Jennifer J. replied:
We use Bethel Village too and have found that our experience varied depending on which Dr. we saw - prefer Dr. Lasko for our dog and cats. Have heard not so nice things about one of the other vets there.
Christine P. replied:
We take both of our rescued love bugs to Brookfield Animal Hospital. They are all Cornell grads, staff is great. All of the docs are great but Dr. Salvatore is my fav!!!
Dana T. replied:
We've had good experiences with Dr. Mixon. Great staff!
Roseanne L. replied:
Another fan of Redding Ridge Vet and Sally!! She LOVES animals and you can really see that. Their staff is wonderful, too. Very old country vet feel. Several friends recommended her. So glad they did. Heading there with our 2 Goldens this week. Also took previous dogs to Dr. Lasko. Like her as well.
Monica M. replied:
I take our German shepherd to Dr. Heidinger in Ridgefield. He's very shy with people, but animals love and trust him, and he truly loves animals. He is incredibly affordable, and if you can't pay right then, he will let you pay when you can. He says that no animal should go without medical care due to lack of funding. I've been bringing my animals to him for over 10 years, since I moved to CT from the Midwest.
Linda B. replied:
Mt. Pleasant, Dr. Vali has been our vet for over 11 years! Love the staff!

I thought Berkshire Vet closed in Sandy Hook. I just called to get my dogs records and they are still in operation. Just a new vet bought the practice. Everyone else in the practice is the same apparently. Thanks for the recommendations. So many people told me they closed. Not sure why the rumor started?
Good morning. I was wondering if anyone knows a vet that treat rabbits in the area. The bunnies are maturing, and we are looking to get one neutered. Thanks!

try Roxbury Animal Clinic - we take all our pets there - much more reasonable than around here (we have 5 small dogs)- and they do farm animals - lovely vet - they do great work - nice people about 20 minutes away roughly... 156 Baker Road Roxbury, Connecticut 06783 860-354-8612
Hello, My dog needs surgery on her knee. They are recommending an orthopedic surgeon. The estimates on the surgery differ a bunch from vet to vet. Has anyone used Dr....
Barbara S. replied:
Check park lane animal hospital in new milford. Dr Dinwiddie there does a lot of knee surgeries and since it is a regular veterinary practice it may be more affordable. He has years of experience and also walks you through rehabilitation process. I know he does ALCs not sure what else but you can call and ask.
