Slick and Dapper on Grand in Lakeshore is a pretty good spot worth checking out

You can definitely get a great cut at the Temescal Alley Barbershop, and they're cheap too. They are PACKED on the weekends and don't take appointments, so keep that in mind. They will usually offer a beer or whiskey, if I remember. My husband gets his hair cut there and he just looks so damn handsome. Here are a couple of their barbers featured in Refinery 29: http://www.refinery29.com/barber-shops#slide-4http://www.refinery29.com/barber-shops#slide-8 and their blog: http://temescalalleybarbershop.tumblr.com/

Love K2 Salon in Chinatown. Ken is really cool, quick, and professional.

There's a barber in temescal alley that I hear a lot of good things about, but I think they mostly do hipsterish fade type stuff.

I recently discovered Right Angle on College Ave. Sounds like the place you had in Norfolk: quiet, staff is the right amount of talkative, shampoo and beverage included, all for $25.

I enjoy the shop on MLK and 46. Just check their hours first.

Lee's Barber Shop in Uptown Oakland. If you want an affordable, sensible haircut followed by a through vacuuming of your head, Lee is your man.Especially if you're into old-school Korean dance music.
