If you don't want the drama and the massive amounts of people during tourist season, go to Dam Neck beach. If you want to people-watch, eat at restaurants, etc. then go to the Oceanfront. Sunday mornings are good if you want to hit up the Oceanfront at an off-prime hour. Brunch on the boardwalk is nice. Waterman's is a must-try. Pocahontas Pancakes is good as is Doc Taylor's and Big Sam's.
