My uncle is a retired chef/caterer and he likes to use Central Meats (http://www.centralmeats.com/) for his meat selection. He swears by their meats and I've had quite a few delicious steaks/ribs from there.

Fish market got ya covered: Weltons on 16 th (ish) between Monticello and Granby. John will take care of you. Good luck on the grocery store/butcher. Gonna have to look elsewhere.. Va beach, most likely. Whole foods is opening soon, and there's a honest-to-good butcher in hilltop near the Fresh Market (best choice before whole foods opens) Best to travel the 30 mins and take coolers. edit to add: the ONLY place to get Coffee in Hampton Roads is Cafe Stella on Colonial. I'm a volunteer shill, admittedly, but you are lucky to be living in the 'hood.

For the butcher you'll have to drive a bit, but Central Meats on Kempsville in Chesapeake is the best I know of.

You wouldn't be able to get all of your shopping done there, but [Taste Unlimited](http://www.tasteunlimited.com/) does have a store. All of their items are local and/or organic. They have everything from pasta to beer to bakery goods. Plus, while you're there, you can have something to eat!

I've always been more /r/frugal, but Ive found that Grand Market, on the corner of Newtown and Baker in VB has all the things for my personal foodie that I could ask for, within my budget. But then again, IMHAUO variety is the spice of life, regardless of appearance. They have a very good fish market, a superb multicultural selection of food (Asian/Arabic/Indian/Mediterranean, etc...) They're dingier than your average supermarket, but I've found that appearances can be deceiving. Let me know if you visit and what you think!

What I am always looking for is great produce! I am from California and lived in Western Washington state for a long time and I really miss truly great produce. Even what I find in farmers markets here is only good at best. I would love some input.
