Looking for a good "barbershop" in the area that also does facials and beard trims. No hair salons.

Bottle and Barlow on R st. Half barber shop/ half bar. The receptionist will make up a cocktail for you while you wait. very clean/ professional/ and has the best in the industry there. Can book your appointment online. Little bit of a drive but worth it

I would definitely try Upper Kurtz. I went to high school with the owner, Timmel. Nice guy, cool establishment and they do facials.
Does anyone know of a good barber or hairdresser in the Elk Grove area that has experience with autistic kids, and would be able to cut my grandson's hair? He's 3.5...

Not disturbing others is one less thing to worry about as the hairdresser is trying to concentrate on the haircut. It also gives lots of leeway to bring in reinforcers or a portable DVD player etc. for reinforcement or distraction. And there is less stimulus from hairdryers, talking, water running and so on....Planning the haircut at a less busy time at the beginning or end of the salon day can be very helpful. Going in several trips is also a good strategy to help with success. If you can find someone to do the home haircut, it can be slowly moved into the salon over time, possibly many years. The ABA program should be working on this with mock haircuts and desensitization programs. Hair salon program at home with the cape, getting the hair wet with a sprayer, combing, brush, the buzz of clippers and sound of the scissors near the head and so on....with lots of reinforcement. Maybe use the timer for intervals so the child can see each step will end.
